Trouble with finding iOS Provisioning Profile

gyroscopegyroscope I am here.Member, Sous Chef, PRO Posts: 6,598

Hi, I've been trying to get an updated binary of my app for hours now. I made a new App ID, and PP, published via GameSalad (selecting what I thought was the correct profile), finally got to the end with the app made and downloaded, zipped it, and started uploading via Application Loader; then it warned me there was a profile clash (or a bundle identifier clash) so I remade the App ID and the PP, downloaded the PP, opened it in Xcode.

Now when i get to the App Signing settings in the GS publishing, my new iOS Provisioning Profile isn't showing in the drop down list. And if I click the button marked "Get Provisioning Profile" it takes me to make another one - which I don't need to do - and then there's no way back to the GS Publishing App signing settings where I was: I have to start all over again.

It's driving me bonkers... any help appreciated, thanks.

PS The binary I'm after is an update of my app, and the name of the app has changed... don't know if that's got anything to do with it.... although I guess not; as I say, the main problem is the provisioning profile not showing in the drop down menu...

David, during GS publishing you need to make sure that you don't have a SPACE after your Provisioning Profile, and that you have only small letters in the name - when I try to use big letters, it doesn't work.

It picks it from Xcode. Open it, and check if you have them :)

And go to your iTunes Connect, open your app, and try to copy Provisioning Profile name from there :)

Ha @mrpacogp I get what you're saying! It's certainly trial and error, juggling this and that profiles!

    @TheMoonwalls

Picks up from Xcode, ah right, I thought as much... (I should have learned that by now! :P )

So to confirm, the PP is there in Xcode, marked Valid Profile. In iTunes Connect, that just says Waiting for Upload, as it should.....

It's just that GS Publishing signing can't pick up the new profile....

    --------

Lightbulb moment: I'll try new project instead of existing project in GS publishing.... might work.... hope so...

@gyroscope Sorry to ask am obvious question. But did you make sure you typed the app id into the space provided in on your GS publishing page?

i.e if you didn't type it exactly e.g com.gyroscope.newgame then it wouldn't appear as an option in the drop down list when you hit 'sign app' even if it is installed in your xcode.

@HoneyTribeStudios Hi Shaz, I do remember typing the app id into the space provided; but maybe I didn't type it the same, possibly.... thanks for that observation. :-)

I'm going to close everything and start from scratch again, but this time make it as a new project, make sure I type in the app id correctly ;-) and fingers crossed it should work now.

i'll report back as to how it goes... :-)

hmm if your doing an update you're supposed to use the app ID of the current published app. All you have to do if the old one expired is click modify and from the drop down app ID change it to another then change it back and hit submit. This will renew it and then go into xcode and hit refresh in organizer. Apple won't accept a new App ID for updating apps.

@FryingBaconStudios Oh....I forgot that.... thanks for info... so use the existing provisioning profile, even if the name of the app has changed, Dave?

OK, I'll give it another shot with this info, cheers! :-)

Yep, can't update an existing app unless ap I'd is the same. Not even sure you can change the name. You can change the name that displays on device but not sure about app name as displayed in the store.

Edit: after looking through the iTunes guide it seems the name is locked from edit.

    Thanks for info, Dave.

The name change first: I changed the app name in iTunes Connect, and it seems to be OK, fingers crossed; just waiting for the updated binary now.

But back to the PP: I think I have a big prob. which I'm thinking has scuppered me...

The provisioning profile for the original game, showing in Xcode, says "Profile has expired" so I click on the Renew button.

But then I get the message: The given profile was not found on the provisioning portal. Please refresh your provisioning profiles before attempting to renew "End of the Earth game"

But, here's the thing: I deleted the profile from the provisioning portal page.... I know, very silly of me, but I thought I remembered I needed a new one for an update, so didn't think I needed it....

The AppleID is still there; I wonder if I just make another provisioning profile to put into Xcode and it'd be OK?

I've the horrible feeling that won't work, and that I won't be able to make an updated binary now....

Unless there's some way to recover a deleted PP in the provisioning portal page perhaps.... any help, Dave or anyone else, would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yep as long as you use the app ID you're good. Next time just go to the distribution profile, in developer portal, for the app then click modify. Change the app I'd in the drop down then switch it back to the right one. Now you can click save. This will renew it and the hit refresh it will download the renewed one. Just delete the expired ones so there are no conflicts.

Phew, excellent, Dave, thanks for that!! Thanks also for info about changing it next time.

    But mainly:
