If you want some constructive criticism read below, If not; Sit down, Drink a warm cup of tea and look at some of the worlds most famous websites... Examine them... Apply their designs to yours

    - First of the layout of the side is all off, Theres a lot of save for background and minimal space for content, Make the site itself "wider" and the sidebars smaller,

    _ Colours

I'm no graphic designer, But I can tell first of all as a customer that your sight turns me off straight away.. The colors are either dull... or too monotone,
Black & White for the menu is a real graphical let down for me.. Try a more sophisticated menu like that on http://apple.com
"Purple" is heavily used in your design, I don't agree with this - Psychologically, A colored background in a website is BAD (In capitals; yes) You see, Our eyes are used to reading text o white/light/grey/ backgrounds, Which is why most well known websites are white - Stick to the fundamental principals of psychological patterns that we have followed for centuries (In layman's terms stick to what we're used to - e.g) Black text on a white bg)

    - Design
To be frank/Critical, The site to me is "Boring" Its dull, and very "black" try to be more simplistic or just more flamboyant,
For design examples I would highly recommend checking out
    - http://apple.com http://amazon.com & My own sites: http://thermo-apps.com & Http://thatdevelopermarket.com

    - The site itself
To be insightful I would suggest using http://wordpress.com (Free) or http://wordpress.org (When you buy your own host) as these sites provide a lot more tools on the design of your site then plain old html or whatever your using, Of course you can build your own theme (Which I have done) But the themes that come with these services are spectacular - They might breath a bit of life into your site...

I hope for you all the best in your new site, I hope the above post has helped, If you'd like to ask my anymore questions don't be afraid to PM me or contact me through one of my sites - Remember as Developers a website is a crucial gateway for our customer eco-system,

    All the best,
    J. Leonard - Thermo-Apps

I found that really helpful, even though it wasn't directed to me. I totally need to redesign my site this summer, now. :-S

I'm glad you did, I'm delighted it helped somebody - I Have a book coming soon "Web design - The science behind it" with all the psychology explaining why its done.. :)

@LeonardDeveloper - that's what I'll be studying as I try and grow a business - how to market myself - I think I have to remember that just because *I* like a certain style or colour doesn't mean it will appeal to customers. This stuff is so important, so when someone in the industry offers advice, I try to listen.

    Yes, Your quite right
Colour plays a vital part in cognitive decisions (Decisions you make subliminally) which makes it **Vital** for us indie devs to use the right colors through out our games
e.g) Here's my psychological quick quite)
Red) Warm/Angry Depends on the content
Yellow) Brilliant for foods and attention
White) Perfect for all round websites and anything with text
Aluminium) Not a color, But is used in a lot of products for "The shine effect" (The brain is more attracted to things that shine and are smooth... Eg) Metals, Aluminium is lightweight which makes it even better)
