Thanks for the insight mrpacogp. That may be something I add to the update. The standard font does look novice.

Are you using a screenshot from Battlefield as a background?

Im not here to start a fist fight but Krehol Games (the company which appears to also have made Tango Down) seems a tiny bit shady. Many of the games are, what appear to be, copyright infringement lawsuits waiting to happen, charging, at some points, 10 bucks for false advertising, and or, what appears to be false advertising (i.e. first person shooters that are actually not first person shooters, etc.) and using characters created by other companies (i.e. halo). My mistake, its called iHalo, so all is well.
Look, who am i to say anything, but in my opinion i just think that the games being produced here seem a tiny bit deceptive. Personally i dont understand the thrill of cheating or fooling people out of their money. And to be fair, i cant say that youre doing that. It just appears to be that way. I can only assume (for starters) that the majority of your graphics are stolen. Why? Because i see these beautifully rendered 3D graphics and then completely 180, poorly designed ammo graphics, etc. Something tells me Krehol made the ammo graphics and not the other way around. Again, i could be wrong. And sincere apologies to you if i have made an error.
My point is, the reason why im saying all of this is because the game isnt free. If it were free id keep my mouth shut. But youre charging actual money for things that (at least on the surface) appear deceptive in nature.
Again im not here for a fight. Im here to merely alert customers that something seems wrong. Take a look at the portfolio of krehol games on the app store (spongebob clone, ihalo, call to duty. Cmon CALL TO DUTY! Are you serious?).
Game design is an art. Deceiving and stealing is not.
I guess i just aspire for art instead of quick bucks.
I look forward to the inevitable reply. I respect what you have to say. Thanks and good luck with your game here (even if i may not agree with the companies potential ideology).

This appears to be advertising a game with flagrant copyright abuse, and reflects poorly on the GameSalad community and software. We'll tag @SaladStraightShooter for future action.

    Anatomy of dreams

Thanks for your comments. Krehol works with both experienced and "green" developers, many are highschool kids between 13-15. If they have an idea we'll work with them to get it released. Only one of the games you listed above was made with GS. We have other titles as well, such as: flybird, doodles venture, Momo, Raynium etc. so don't forget to mention those. with that being we don't handcuff these devs during development. We simply advise them of how apple operates. If apples approves their game, then it must meet the guidelines they put in place.

We don't expect everyone to agree with what we do and that's fine. Yes we do it for the love but we also understand that we are a business. We enjoy helping others get their game to the store. (thanks for the intelligent convo, many users just come here to bash other indies.)

    Liquid Game Works,

What does you'll flag @gamesaladshooter for future action mean?

In your game Tango Down - do you use imagery from commercially released games ? Or is the imagery used created by yourselves ?
  • gamesfuagamesfua Member Posts: 723
@rmcleod1880 it appears you might be helping younger developers create games. If so, very noble of you and the company. That said, one should encourage the youth to think outside the box and create things that are new, unique, and fresh. Making a watered down version of halo isn't making art- its merely a lack of incentive. A lack of challenge. To not even try and change the name, etc. just seems uninspired. On top of this, in the end, what may unfortunately be the lesson these kids learn, is that legal matters may come about over this. Instead of challenging their creativity theyre going to learn the realities (potentially) of legal copyright issues.
As i said i'm not here to start fights. I don't believe in fighting. But i would urge you and Krehol Games to really sit down and think about some of the products you're making. No matter how you slice and dice it, some of these games border on deception (even if that wasnt the intention).
I challenge you to challenge the company to create innovative titles instead of making quick bucks off watered down versions of other peoples ideas. The hardest thing in the world is coming up with a great idea- but its the "coming up with the great idea" thats the wonderful and rewarding part of the journey.

    Anatomy,

Thanks for the input. Keep in mind that there are people who actually enjoy the games mentioned. When it comes to creativity, art, etc, and whats considered a good or bad game, that merely lye's in the eye of the beholder/creator. We know we cant please everyone, and wont try too, but we understand your position.

Also just because apple approves a game doesn't mean it's not open to copy right infringements and can easily be taken down if the original creators see that there has been art copied, music and game name the same or similar.

@rmcleod1880 just to be clear, at no point do i recollect suggesting your games are fun or not. Good or bad. Never said it. Nor did I suggest your audience enjoys or doesnt enjoy your games. What I said was that the games can be misleading. I said that, intentional or not, the games can come across deceptive in nature. This stems from two particularly strong talking points.
1- using (or borrowing, or alluding to) well established characters and themes that are not owned by you or the company.
2- using (potentially) copywritten artwork not owned by you or your company.

What you choose to do with that information is up to you and your company. But they are merely comments/suggestions made by myself and others of this community. Personally i think its important to truly sit and think about these comments made by everyone, because they may impact the health of your games and their livelyhood in the app market.

@imgua and @socks (amongst many others) have called to question the validity of your artwork. We have yet to hear any comments about that.

You wrote, "When it comes to creativity, art, etc, and whats considered a good or bad game, that merely lye's in the eye of the beholder/creator."

All true, but not in this case. As far as the creativity and art aspect is concerned. Why? Because theyre potentially not your art, not your creativity, and not your ideas. And that was what i said. Not that your games are good or bad, not that your audiences enjoy or dislike your games. So i'm not sure i understand your line about, "...but we understand your position."
Quite frankly i don't think you do, especially when creativity and art are put in the same paragraph.

This isn't a witch hunt- but it is a collection of suggestions and comments made by many people on these forums (including other posts i've seen about your company and your games). And i think you and the company should really think long and hard about your sustainability utilizing these practices.
Do with it what you will. As always i'll wish you, as i wish everyone, good luck with your endeavors. But it doesnt appear that there is any progression (or what we deem progression) towards a different outlook. There merely appears to be a defensive intiative.

You know, I've not been on these boards for a long while now for a variety of reasons.

One of the main ones was what seemed at the time to be a 'con culture'.

I am saddened to see this is still happening.

I am heartened to see that some people do speak up about it.

I'm going to close this. If you want to contact @SaladStraightShooter and discuss your position on why it should remain open, and he thinks it should be re-opened, he will re-open it, and I will apologize for closing it.

Good to see you @quantumsheep \m/
