In theory it should run on any device which runs Windows 8 - including Surface RT. Surface Pro doesn't exist yet commercially.

But not Windows Phone 8, right?
  • As far as I know I think it will be available for windows 8 phones since on the gamesalad page announcing compatibility for windows 8, it does not exclude windows 8 phones. it says you can publish to the microsoft store, which includes computers, tablets, and phones. I could be wrong, but I think GS games for windows 8 are compatible with windows 8 phones. hope that helps

GameSalad is not currently compatible Windows 8 Phones, which aren't closely related to Windows 8 Desktop/Surface RT Devices. Totally different OS.

as @pixelmetal stated. Windows 8 Phones are not supported yet. But they are working on that for a future release.

So if we have a game that requires touch based inputs. Are there any devices we should be aiming to Publish to on Windows 8.

I've seen a lot of videos on Surface RT laptops and read that samsung is introducing even more touch screen laptops, has anyone tried developing for these?

Also there isn't a platform on the GS Mac software for developing for Windows 8, so is there a best solution for windows 8 development?

@IcedB - All Windows 8 games should support both touch and mouse interactions. GameSalad makes this fairly easy implement. There are a TON of new devices coming out that all have touch screens from Lenovo, Samsung, Asus, Acer, and, of course, Microsoft. That said, there are certainly a lot of upgraded machines and machines that do not have a touchscreen. Users of both experiences will be able to download your Windows 8 game.

You can definitely use GS on a Mac to develop Windows 8 games, but you will need a Windows 8 device if you want to test it. You have a few options... You can check out a Windows 8 Device App Lab if you're near one. You can purchase a Surface or any other touchscreen PC to test on. You can also consider running Windows 8 in a VM on your Mac and using the simulator to test. Check out GenerationApp (http://rj.cx/app_in_30_days) for information on the device lab in the UK and for other resources. Feel free to reach out to me for any additional questions.

@atxryan Thanks for getting back to me I'm now going to look for a device that hopefully offers a retina display at a reasonable value. Just to clarify; Gamesalad will allow publishing to tablets/PC's running Windows 8 and Windows RT Software?

I can see that I am able to publish games to windows 8 via Gamesalad's online publishing. Is there a particular screen size i should be using in the build, (i presume iPad is likely most compatible). Do windows devices re-scale applications in order for them to fit the screen (like when you run and iphone app on an iPad).
