Which program to use?

Hey guys I know a lot about gamesalad but all the artwork I create using paintbrush is rubbish. could anybody suggest any good art programs possibly free? All the pictures i make dont come out smooth on paintbrush! Thanks, GoldenB

I would recommend Gimp or Inkscape. Both free. Gimp is bitmap and Inkscape is vector.

Photoshop flash illustrator and anime studio if you can shell out some money.

I recommend inkscape and gimp as well... and I wrote some tutorial to make the learning curve a little less steep:

Go back to the earlier tutorials and work your way to the current (slightly more intimidating step-by-step posts into 2D game art creation with inkscape).
