Platformer problem

I have recently got started on Gamesalad and have encountered a problem. I am at the moment just learning the basics but when I make my actor go across the platforms he keeps going horizontally until I release the button instead of falling off the platform. How can I stop this happening?

keep a 'change velocity' pointing and the ground, on the actor at all times. This will simulate gravity.
