Android and Resolution Independence

I tried a quick search but found nothing useful.

I was wondering if android devices can use the lower res images created with the RI option if their screen size is little.

Reading around on how GS works for Android, it appears that GS automatically resize the resolution to adapt to the screen size. But what if the screen is for example 480x320? It will resize the retina images to fit on that or will it use the low res for it?

@SaladStraightShooter Is there an official GS statement anywhere?

Why not just do a test with an image and adhoc.

I only have a Kindle Fire and my AdHocs get resized correctly and by the look of it it is using the retina images. But that is somewhat expected from that device.

What I wanted to know was if I use the Resolution Independence option a 480x320 Android device would use the low res images (that would be the expected behaviour like what happens on non retina iOS devices) or it would use the high res images?

I'm having this doubt because GS always stated that on Android they made it so that whatever the resolution we publish the game it would always resize to the device screen size. And that's what actually happens, but they never stated if when a device with a small screen res is detected then it would also use low res images.

I was emailing GS support last week on an unrelated matter, but they mentioned that 'resolution independence' doesn't apply to Android.

they mentioned that 'resolution independence' doesn't apply to Android.
If that's true then that could lead with bad performance issues with a good portion of Android devices.

@SaladStraightShooter Could you get some official words on this issue?
