i gave you 2 stars but dont be discourage, i like the over all idea behind the game
you should check out the video in this thread http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/45997/juice-it-or-lose-it-talk-on-game-polish#latest
there is a lot of simple things you can do to make this game much better, things that dont even change game play.
animations
jump animation, just a simple squash stretch of the guy jumping to the next platform maybe his eyes close, just something to make him look like a blob freak thing jumping,
walk anim, he has no legs but when he scooches left or right you can add a kinda wiggle animation to give him some life
idle anims
when you are sitting still maybe thinking about a puzzle, add some life to the guy have him look around, maybe shift his weight a bit,
maybe after 10 or 15 secs of not moving he can do a fidget animation maybe a exagarated look around, maybe look at the camera an say "we goina do this or what?" . perhaps one where he holds his breath and turns blue, maybe passes out. or better, set it up so he has several fidgets and it randomly picks between them.
push animation
when he's pushing a block have him lean into it gritt his teeth an put some effort in it.
suscess animation
when he gets to the goal have a little yay animation of him jumpin up an down maybe fireworks going off behind him.
Sounds
ambient player sounds
perhaps some muttering and mumblings from the main character when hes sitting still, maybe some grunting as he's pushing, a "wheee" when he jumps" a "ahhhh" when he falls off a ledge
a yay when he gets to the goal
interaction sounds
a plop when you land on a platform, a scrape when a platform is being pushed, a crash when you push a block too far an it falls off a ledge (block could even break into chunks), celebration sounds when you get candy.
menus, make the buttons have some interaction like when you press play, it has some effect like a button or anything, could just glow, or wiggle, just something to visualize the inter actions, this could also have a sound to work with it.
graphics, overall the graphic style works, but could be refined a bit
thats just my 2 cents on what could easily raise the value of this game.
Thanks for the help.
Here are some tips...
- You should consider animating the main character a bit to make it more interesting.
- Use the same font across the game
- Success and failure animation (again, will make the player connect with your character)
- Character seems to be floating mid-air in some cases
- You don't need the big Floopy text on each level
- Icon is blurry, you also don't need the iTunes default effect on it
- Not feeling your iTunes description, last think I want to download is a 13 years old first game. You can use it when you contact review sites as a spin, but doesn't work as an app description
Good luck with the game.
GR
- I don't like the music
- I don't like the art
- nice concept
- blurry icon
- needs more polishing
- I am 13 too ( there are tones of 13 year old developers out there )
But otherwise not bad for a first game.
1. More animation is needed
2. Blurry icon
3. Lack of sound effects
4. Lack of effects
5. Unpolished graphic
6. No real storyline
I'm not trying to be discouraging. Looks really cool. Great for someone my age. Good luck!
thank you all!
Not bad for your first entry. Congrats!
And also agree with @Hapiapps
It really does not matter what age you are, infact, if you ask me, saying that may decrease downloads. Some people may think "He is only 13, his app with be bad". Even if its not true, SOME people just assume if your younger then you can't make good games.
There has been many many more developers around your age that i have seen since i started. Its becoming not a big thing, since there is so many young developers.
I also started developing when i was 13, and its taken me a while to realise this.
And there are people younger than 13 that have made apps with GS, you won't see them on the forums because they are too young.
Even though i gave 2 stars, it is good for a first app, keep at it! Take the advice from people, it helps a lot.
I would only give my first app 1 star.
Great game! The most important thing in a game is gameplay, and you nailed it.
You have a game that appeals to kids, adults, male and female. I work for a software company that has published over 100 apps on the App Store and I can say its very difficult to create a game that appeals to such a wide audience.
Spend another month and work on the polish... perfect it as much as you can and then throw that baby on the App Store.
Good Job! You're going to have a bright future ahead of you.
