Creating generic Android applications

Greetings,

I'm new to GameSalad and I'm wanting to use the software to build Android games. When I begin a new project I'm given a choice of platforms, such as the Nook and Kindle, but what if I want to build for regular phones, the most popular resolution is currently 480 X 800, is this possible? For what its worth I plan to buy PRO soon.

Yes, I plan to go PRO soon, I just wish I could test the Nook selection on a couple of phones before I purchase. I really have no idea what GameSalad performance is like on Android, which processors perform best, what sensors are supported etc.

Why would you be asked to make an android game you can't publish which would allow you to give it to someone?

Your wording is a bit vague, by platform do you mean which version of Android to build for? In which case I'd recommend 2.3 gingerbread, because its still the most common version. If by platform you mean what software to build with, you'll need PRO gamesalad to deploy apps.

@FryingBaconStudios In our class we we're asked to make our own android game. that's the reason why. It will be just for our class. to make life easy for me. i want to use Game Salad. is it possible to make an android game without going pro?. I just really need it for my class, and i don't have any plans of selling it. Its just for the sake of grades. thats it ser.

@NickMoore i'm sorry for my wordings, what I mean is, I have this Windows GameSalad, and When I get to create a new project, and I would like to create a game for android machines, what Platform should I use? after filling the title, I am asked about the platform, and android is not on the choices.

@nolinichole, no worries, I asked this same question a matter of days ago. In my testing, I've used iPhone portrait, and when I do a preview on an Android device, it fills the screen out, (for the most part, the iPhone is a bit smaller than most Android phones). The real issue is that the Android Viewer app isn't working quite right with the Windows version of GameSalad. Hopefully this gets patched soon.

It is not possible to generate an .APK from GS without a Pro membership.

@NickMoore Sir, could you suggest another software where I can create games for android for free, where I wouldn't use so much coding or no coding at all, This class requirement must be passed before August, all I have is the concept for now, and I am really having a hard time, making it done. If I can't make this, I would fail in my subj. and couldn't graduate. :((

@JustMe74 thanks for that info, maybe I wouldn't pursue making an android game with GameSalad, I don't have any money in going for Pro, I am just a student. :(

@nolinichole, its really hard to say what's best. GameMaker by YoYo is pretty solid, but I believe to actually test on a mobile, you'll need to upgrade it as well. (Near same price as GameSalad). I also love Construct 2, but it currently has mobile performance issues on Android. So its a bit of a toss up unfortunately, I recommend doing a little research, seeing what software fits you best.

@NickMoore the game concept is just like doodle jump. almost the same of course, same theoretical framework. I would like to try Construct 2 for that. is it for free? no upgrades needed?

@nolinichole its free to an extent, you should be fine for personal use, you'll find that performance isn't quite the best on mobile yet, and getting your app to Android takes a little practice and learning.
