When is a good time to release a "Lite" Version ?

I'm planning on releasing a lite version of my next game and wanted to know other peoples experience of doing the same. Should I release a lite version at the same time as the full one or 1 week before or 2 weeks after or,or ,or...

I am just about finished with a full version of game that I released as a lite version nearly a month ago. I have had about 50,000 DLs of the lite version. My plan is to update the lite version when I release the full version as way of letting all those people know that the full version is out. I am hoping it will help.

Thanks scitunes, I was thinking the same thing but just after I posted I Googled the question and this is what I found --> http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/business-legal-app-store/24460-when-release-lite-version.html

Which seems to be saying that releasing a week or so after is the way to go.

Well look at Hunn's game alpine crawler

They did that and it was in the top 5 OVERALL in the first day

Im about to try the same thing
plus if you get no response at all you can scrap the game without having put as much time in.
Kind of testing the waters i guess

    Remember though (RE alpine crawler)...
Hunn's company had over 300K users for several months before releasing a full version. Plus they advertised (within the free version) in advance that the full version was coming which created anticipation. Plus their full version was a DELUXE version with new stuff and more gameplay elements.

This is what I understand at least...am I right Hunn?

The reason that its a top 10 global app is that its fairly deep and fast...and the gameplay is good. In short...Its a very good game...albeit the HUD and menus could use better graphics.

    Synthesis, you are right.

Yeah, the menu is not really nice, but it's functional. A shiny menu would also not do much to the game :-)

Sure there are some design problems with it. Some people find it not really userfriendly or easy to navigate. We will see, what we can do. :-)

Yes of course in mentioning alpine crawler I was just making ref to the potential of lite versions if done correctly. The fact that it's a great game is almost a given. Nothing really matters if the game itself sucks.

Just as a note guys when in app purchase comes out it'll be a good Idea to instead of having a lite version just sell it as an In app Purchase. You'll get a TON more purchases that way.
