There had been a lot of talk in this forum about the use of templates, I'm not sure that keeping the name and coloring the main actor in green will be considered as fair use.

    First good game you made?

Have you even changed the template except for the main actor?

Seriously, you should know using common sense you can't use other peoples art or out right steal their work. This game should not be on the app store since you ripped someone off and say it is your work.

    IMO

then they should not put it for sale but there are many other games in the app store copying other peoples art work. I am new to gamesalad but i will try to using my own art work from now on.

Horrible opinion you have here! They put it for sale as a template, for you to learn from and create your OWN games from. If you wish to use everything as is, thats fine, but at the very minimum, change the artwork and give it your own feel.

You take credit as the first game you made because you added a few scenes and 6 levels! I could do that in 1 afternoons work, whats the best you're hoping for in this game? The minimum levels you should be aiming for is 40, especially in this type of game. If you release with 6 levels I seriously suggest you set it to free.
Think about it, who will be happy buying something with 6 levels? I know i wouldn't and i know 99.9% of people wouldn't be! You may get away with it from friends and family but thats it! People are used to getting so much for so little.

You have a great template to work from, I suggest you add a lot more to it. Your main screen doesn't match the quality of the art from the template either. The art doesn't fit in style between the screens, they look completely different across the screenshots.
You have 3 screenshots and 2 of them are showing menus, show more of the game.

In your description you need to check the spelling of 'Entertainment'
You list 'New Bike' as a feature ... Why is it new? What was the old one? If you mean from the template then no-one is going to know that. It sounds like there will be more than 1 bike in the game, is this the case?

I don't want to sound too negative but you really need to put more into it.

    Hope this helps, good luck.

In theory, he owns the artwork. Once sold, the buyer can do whatever he/she would like to do with the template and artwork. If you only want to sell a template for code purposes, then use blank square actors, otherwise the buyer buys the artwork as well.
Am I saying that I think this game will do well, no, the effort clearly isn't there. However, due to the lack of effort in this game, I believe that it is insulting that you want us to pay $.99 to try your game that you didn't do a thing to create.
    Just my two cents.

@shark1505 It is not a legal issue, it is about ethics

Templates are always such a touchy topic! I personally don't like seeing copies of templates in the app store...But think about this: would the developers be selling the templates if they had some kind of personal attachment to the artwork? Don't these developer selling the templates expect things like this to happen? It can't bother them too much if they are continuing to put time into making the art in the first place. In the end, part of the reason for making the artwork is to make it appealing for the "newbie" to purchase...

and I don't mean to say that the ONLY reason templates are made is for profit, most of it is to teach. But there is still that part of it.

Well it's bad enough that you didn't really change much. The part I am trying to understand is, WHY on EARTH would you post it on the forum after doing this?

    Cracks me up.
  • EatingMyHatEatingMyHat Member Posts: 1,246
@DreamLab I think this one was a newbie mistake thinking of the template as a game with a level editor... it does not seem to be the same as scammers that we have all seen (this is the only way I can explain his post).

Maybe we should have a templates ethic guidelines sticky somewhere.

I'm guessing you are just a kid. Your doing yourself a disservice by using other peoples artwork and representing it as yours. It's common knowledge that there is stolen stuff in the app store, but that doesn't make it right

@dreamlab agree %100 why post it on the forum after changing nothing?

While I don't agree with announcing the game, this member actually didn't do anything wrong.
