Inkscape/ Photoshop problems

AnteeksAnteeks Member Posts: 7
Tried to make a logo in inkscape, but when i save it, it will include the unused white space in the picture (unlike Illustrator).

Tried to crop this in Photoshop but could only crop in squares (after selecting magnetic tool) which in turn, left some of the white spaces. How to remove the frustrating, unused space in a picture and only use the objects you create?

What format are you saving it out as?

.png will allow an alpha channel in your image (no white background), but .jpeg won't.

I saved as .png and I still get a white background.

Use the export bitmap setting in "file" and then when you are exporting it make sure that you add the".png" to the end of the filename, and then you will have exported the picture with the alpha background.

I normally copy and paste the graphic onto a transparent Photoshop file, then do a 'save for web' using PNG 24 with transparency checked.

But I'm using Illustrator, not sure if you can copy and paste between Inkscape and Photoshop.

In Photoshop, make sure the entire image is in a single layer (e.g. Layer-->Merge Visible). Then, use the Magic Wand tool and click on the white background so that it is selected. Click on Select-->Inverse to select only the image. Click Image-->Crop. Click Edit-->Copy, File-->New (make sure Background Contents are set to Transparent), OK, Edit-->Paste, and then Save as a png. The background will then be transparent and you can import it into GameSalad.

    (edited to include correct instructions)

    Thanks for all replies!

"Save for web devices" doesn't really work as the transparent areas will be a problem in GameSalad as these areas will still be able to act as an actor together with the rest of the image.

I have tried to crop the image in Photoshop (including magic wand ->inverse->crop) but I still get this (just a simple example):

As you can see, there are still white spaces around the corners no matter how I try to crop the image. Looks like it crops in a square (have tried feather) and it can't adapt to curves that are not equal to 90 degrees. I want to isolate the object completely from the artboard,

    @Anteeks

Thats how gamesalad works. The transparent areas, and any blank space around the image will be part of the actor.

Yes I know, and thats why I said that "save for web devices" doesn´t work out for me and thus I want to completely isolate the object from the artboard. :)

@Anteeks Sorry, I've done that so many times that I forgot to include a step! After you do Select-->Inverse so that the image itself is selected, do Edit-->Copy, File-->New (make sure Background Contents are set to Transparent), OK, Edit-->Paste, and then Save as a png.

I've just been designing my actors to fit into a square/rectangle shape as much as possible.

I'm a bit confused what you are trying to do though, because once you bring the graphic into Gamesalad it will be fitted into a rectangle/square again.

Big thanks! That did the trick.
