Simultaneous Stereo Tracks

QuinnZoneStudiosQuinnZoneStudios Member Posts: 452
Hey gang,
I know there are several who have made some great audio apps and therefore worked on solving specific audio needs.
Well I'm wondering if there's any solution yet for running multiple stereo streams simultaneously I've not discovered or if something is in the works?
Mono I know works beautifully.
Be awesome if there's an official answer from someone at GS too :)
Cheers and be well,
Mike

Yeah, the sound/music behavior is basically the same thing, and can be used opposite of it's title. The only thing if I remember correctly, is that sound files are limited in the length of time they are allowed to play. I could be wrong, but I use opposite behaviors from time to time for my music/sounds, and have yet to come across a time constraint, but I could swear I remember seeing that there is a time constraint somewhere.

And by default, GameSalad uses .ogg for sound files, and .m4a for music.

There has never really been a solid definition on this, so If I were you, I would just progress as if the 2 behaviors were the exact same thing, with one having restrictions on what behaviors can be applied to it. Just forget their titles, and focus on the behaviors that can be applied to each one, and use the one that suits your needs best.

Not sure as im not an audio person but i do know that GS can only play one music file at a time. You can play multiple sound files at one time but i dont know that thats what you are wanting.

    Thanks tenrdrmer.
Sound filed would be fine, but so far I've only been able to have a sound file play in Mono and therein lies the rub. I need more than one stereo audio file to play - doesn't matter to me if it's the music route or the sound route.
I know that what they have works great for most apps but I wonder if GS will allow us to switch on that option in a future release for people like me?

I have no idea even what the reasoning is behind how they have the audio setup. its way above my knowledge level for sure. If you think its a something that would be beneficial definitly make a post in the what you want sticky thread. I don't know the benefit of mono vs stereo on a small moble device Audio is not my thing.

All of the sound files in my game are stereo and I'm able to do 2 at once....

Oh interesting... Do you mind me asking exactly how you are doing that? i.e. sound file format etc?

You can play more than one sound file at once. Be sure your original audio is recorded and output in stereo. Output your sound files as acc or mp3 and you can bring them in as what GS calls a sound file. Mp4 can only be imported as what GS calls a music file. The only difference between sound and music files in GS is that the music file behavior can be controlled by the music file behaviors, such as, pause music and play music, their volume can't be modified. Sound files are accessed through the sound behavior and can't be controlled by music behaviors but the same can be accomplished using rules and attributes. You can adjust the pitch, volume, interruptiblity and position of a sound file individually. I think GS should rename these behaviors as an audio file is an audio file no matter what is recorded as such music can be imported as a GS sound file and sound FX can be imported as a GS music file the only difference is what you can do with the behavior and not what is recorded on the audio file.

    Good explanation.
I was using .caf files but they stopped working properly for me (could have been because I'm using the old single core intel?). I was also using .ogg files in Sound to better control my compression/ file size. I wonder if that's why they were playing back in mono?
Time for me to get back into the engine for some serious testing.
Thank you Fryingbaconstudios - extra crispy ;)
