Sydney Swans 2014!!
It's been interesting watching people I know play the game. The two-player game is taking a back seat to the simple 1P practice mode (which was almost an afterthought). I guess people are very used to playing one player games these days. Kids are more likely to play the "proper" game.
Some players find the controls tricky at first while others get it straight away (one friend was bowling over 200 in 1P mode by his third game). It was a bit of a dilemma for me to tweak the controls. I didn't want it to be too easy to repeat a roll (it certainly isn't in real bowling) but at the same time I was worried that some players might find it frustrating if they didn't get early success. That's why there are so many "tips" in the game to help players get there. In the end I'm happy with the compromise I ended up with. My play testers have all found the "feel" reasonably quickly and are now "using the force" to place the ball rather than thinking too much.
How they control it is interesting too. Some people "wind up" the ball in a circle and then release it, while others "pump it" back and forth and then let it go. Some play the game with their iPad sideways (landscape) while others even play upside down "pulling" the ball towards them. I've even seen the two-player game played that way. It's been quite educational so far.
