Dear all,

I just finished my first game, Matching Match, and it's up on the store. Check it out!

    That looks fantastic! Beautiful, original graphics! Really nice attention to detail. Great animation, sound fx, everything!

    I also like that you're a bit of a lurker, and you've just kept your head down and come up with something wonderful.

    P.S. - sorry to nit-pick, but may I humbly suggest putting the time bar at the bottom of the screen - it's where the player's eyes naturally rest - at the moment they have to look away from the faces to see how much time is left.

    Like I said, a minor quible - awesome awesome stuff :)

    I'm sure you know this, but you've got a real winner on your hands. I stole a couple minutes from work to give it a go. LOVE the quirky style, illustrations, sound, everything. Are you a one-man show, or a studio, or what? The link to your youtube video was a very nice touch.

    Can't wait to write a review this evening. ...and, I do want to find some 3d glasses.

    Atlanten...
    You REALLY need to implement game modes. You need an "Easy, Normal, and Hard" mode. This app needs to work well for 3-5 year olds as well as adults.

    I think if you do that...you will increase sales (and/or positive reception) a lot...right now...its way too quick for little ones. I recommend you push that out IMMEDIATELY. All you need to do is have mode switching on your reaction timer and add a mode selection module in your index scene.

    Also, I recommend you do a number set to use that matches your amazing art. They GS font numbers don't help. There are tutorials on custom numbering and scoring.

    Synthesis - you're probably right about the difficulty levels. My thinking was that maybe it doesn't matter if a game session is short, if it's really quick and easy to restart and you're getting encouraged to do so. But of course if it's over too quick then maybe it's just off-putting, especially for small kids. I probably should try and get some difficulty modes in there.

    About the fonts, I agree it looks a bit ridiculous! I have been hoping for font support to turn up... But God, to put in bitmap numbers with rules character by character, just seems too soul-crushing to go into. Argh!

    So for the fonts, I'm accepting the compromise that comes with using a framework instead of writing code (which I will never be able to do).

    The same way I accept linking to a Youtube video that opens upside down! :D

    @Atlanten, I found a bug in the game where the character on the right never stops and chooses a mouth...

    To replicate the bug:

    1. Start a new game.
    2. When the 4 boxes pop up for the first time, tap and HOLD any box - do NOT lift your finger.
    3. The chosen box will hop up twice, then it will break.

    This happens every time (fortunately!)

    I only found this because i was playing so much!

    Dang! I had this similar thing, when you press a button a million times the same thing happens, the right guy goes into endless shuffle mode.

    I put in this rule where you can only press once every round, so I don't know why this can happen?

    I should probably put in, "if shuffle goes on for more than 3 seconds, reset round" or something.

    Okay, kicking game for sure. The only suggestion is I agree with synthesis about difficulty levels. I don't necessarily agree with the above suggestion about moving the timer bar, as that is not where you should be looking anyway, I think your layout is just fine.

    I gave you a 5 star and review. Look forward to seeing this in hot new game or what we're playing or on an iPhone tv spot in the near future.

    I'm still looking for 3d glasses.

    Great thanks! I checked out your game, it's hilarious. I love the brain broccoli and the banana who wears boxers! You got a 5 as well.

    There are loads of places giving out 3d glasses for free, just google 'free anaglyph glasses'

    Haha this game is awesome! Very fun. As everyone has said, the artwork is amazing, and I love the sounds the guy makes when he makes a face.

    It will only take less than half a day to prepare number fonts
    FMG has a couple of great tutorials on it...they are fairly easy to implement. (I used his rolling score demo...thanks FMG!)

    publish a second one upside down and link to that...then it will be right side up in your game. :)

    Unfortunately Synthesis, GS is all about compromise. Those extra fonts add extra actors to every scene, and every tiny actor seems to affect the game speed equally.

    To avoid hijacking this thread, I'll make a rant! :)

    To atlanten: Are those swaying heads an animation, or using a formula for movement? I'd love to hear about it! :p

    @ Eastbound...
    Atlanten's app is simple/light enough to be able to afford font actors. I don't think incorporating them will hurt it in the least. Besides...for his game...it would only cost him about 4-5 actor constrains to do.

    @ Atlanten.
    I showed your app to a friend's daughter...she is 11 and is in love with my iPod and begs to play it every time we visit. She said your app was "really cool" and the whole family enjoyed all the animation elements. I asked her if she thought is was too hard....she said "no".

    But once I showed her plants vs. zombies...you fell by the wayside into the distant past...sorry! :)

    @Synthesis: Oh I know, it would be no problem for him to implement a custom font, I was speaking broadly. I should've been more specific.

    Oh and I wish I had some 3-D glasses, I really would like to see how it looks!

    The reason I mentioned the positioning of the time bar was because I found that often, it'd be game over and I didn't know why.

    When I realised there was a time bar, I found I kept looking up to see how long I had left.

    What's the point in having a time bar if you're not going to look at it? ;)

    To this end, my recommendation still stands I believe!

    Whether Atlanten thinks it's an issue worthy of addressing is up to him! :)
