Hi, I've been working on a game for a couple of days now and I'm prepared to post a couple of pictures for some feedback on it.Bare in mind that this is only a small amount of the graphics I've produced and these images are very minecraft-esque.

Seriously though, thanks for the feedback, i'm currently working on characters so it'll come together soon.
It's intended to be a retro styled 2D RPG. A bit of a mashup between Castle Crashers, Elephant Quest (google it!) and Mario.
I'm basically starting to code the overall gameplay; walking/jumping and then I'll start on enemy AI. Things like you just said will come after.
Thanks for the feedback on this, guys. FM.

My god, do I love Tumblr
I like it you just need to create a sky. So basically to make the sky and match the art style for your game you need a big blue square
i hope it helps!!!

Psychotic Studios: Yeah, starting to make it, think i'm going to add blocky clouds, etc. Thanks for the interest in this thread!
WTDeveloper:I know what you mean, but with a better background (if that's possible ) and MUCH more features (water, more enemies and bosses) it should look ok with small sprites.
2nd Screenie coming atcha.
Be sure to click the 'High-res' for much better quality.

This is very, very true!
I'm no artist (my stick-men are rubbish!) but I do like a variety of art styles. It's incredible what an art style can do for a game.
If I can bring up Air Supply - at it's base level, it's a run and jump game. There are dozens of them on the app store, maybe hundreds.
But part of its appeal, I think, was the art style.
If everyone is making the same sort of cartoony art for their games, it becomes very boring for me personally.
I prefer something that has a little *personality*. That isn't cookie cutter.
You could argue that too many games use pixel art these days. But the graphics have a charm all their own that give a game, for lack of a better word, a little 'soul'.
Good luck with the game sir!
