So here is a real quick teaser for a game I've recently started working on. Story is ready, I'll fill you all in once more of the game is ready. The bits after the critter dies is the same actor spawned repeatedly with different images. It runs rather smooth on my droid and iPod. once you've got 3 or more critters exploding at once it lags slightly. This will never occur during gameplay though. It;s incredibly satisfying to play in sandbox mode. I will include the sand box as an unlockable when the release is ready.

WARNING: THIS IS HIGHLY GRAPHIC!!!!!

    Looks great, love the blood and guts and bones . . . . and eye balls . . . You could probably get around the 3 critter carnage slow down by recycling the elements.

    Looking forward to this one as it develops, reckon my 4 year old son would love this to pieces . . . Literally.

    Thanks for all the feed back everyone! Glad you like it. Really going push a ton of neat effects in this one.

    @tynan - yeah, I think recycling will really boost performace. And with all the other things ill be adding, might as well start optimising now. :)

    @DeadlySeriousMedia

    It looks awesome. I will let you know though that it has potential for Apple to reject it. They can be sticklers with that kind of stuff. Android you wouldn't have any problem putting up.

    @fallacystudios

    Yeah, I think that's a possibility, but and android launch would be fine by me. Plus, I can always tone done the violence for and apple launch version. Just a matter of changing a couple images.

    i love it. love it!

    tell me, are you recycling these actors on a separate section of the scene?
  • 3xL3xL Member Posts: 676
    that looks like super mario grass lol

    That's awesome man! I hope Apple approves it :)

    @3xl

    Right now the actors are just spawning. On devices this creates a slight lag on collision. I'm going to add a few recycling groups of guts so I can have multiple explosions at the same time. Also, the graphics are far from complete, so the mario look will most likely change. :)

    "I'm going to add a few recycling groups of guts"

    =)) Imagine how this would sound out of context... Haha

    So I'm trying to figure out what type of gameplay mechanics would work best? I've tried platformer (as initially planned), but it didn't quite play the way I'd hoped. I'm leaning towards an agry birds / Tiny balls option. I really wanted some feed back from the community on this. How do you see this game being played? Couple of changes. The animals are now much cuter and are round. That may change youre opinion on how it should play.

    And here's a back story for the game. The cute animals are singing to their hearts content(as cute animals are prone to do), but their singing disturbs the sleep of a demon underground. The point of each level will be to kill all the cute animals to fill your blood meter, this opens a blood portal you then must get to, this advances you to the next level. Also, fun treat, when the blood portal opens the beautiful meadow becomes a firey wasteland! :D

    Anyway, let me know what you all think would be good gameplay options! :)

    Holy mother of Abraham Lincoln! That's a pretty twisted yet awesome Backstory haha.

    I think u should go with the puzzle route. Making each level unique. Different challenges.

    @3xL - Yeah, I know "Short and Sweet Level Design" is one of the tenants of a sucessful mobile game. Puzzel/physics is the easiest way to accomplish this. Perhaps I'll see how it plays.

    So Death Meadow is coming along nicely. I'll be posting some screens and a video demo probably sometime this week! Can't wait! This should be a fun one! :D

    Wow this looks like a very cool game. Like everyone else said, love the guts and gory :D Its going to be interesting to see what apple rates this/if they approve it. What would be the point of the game? To just try and blow up/kill each bunny thing?

    @VentoraStudios - Yeah, the point is to kill every obnoxiously cute animal on the scene to advance to the next level. The objective and scoring model are very much like angry birds, only there is a different firing mechanic. Also, the is a significant increase in violence. :D

    Looks like it can have a (death) cult following ;)

    Definitely waiting for this one.

    So death meadows is a functioning game now! Carmel Tiger did a great job executing my vision for the game. However, after playing it for some time I came to realize my core game mechanic isn't as fun as I expected it to be. So I've made a few changes and I'm going to work on implementing those once I get ABE on the market.

    So much work!!! @-)

    I remember you posting a video a while ago and I liked it....gore is always fun :) And after seeing the creative genius of ABE I will be looking forward to the changes you made. On a side note...I feel your pain when you create a cool game mechanic and it doesn't translate in to fun :((

    Only just seen this. My gut instinct (thanks - I'm here all week - don't forget to get your tshirts in the lobby etc etc) is to make it a limited 'throw' on the deathsphere thingy.

    So you get three 'flicks' and have to kill as many cute things as possible within that limit.

    Just a thought anyway!

    QS :D

    Thanks @SaladStraightShooter and @ironDan

    @quantumsheep The mechanic is actually much different now from the above videos. The current game has you launching the "meat balls" from a could above the scene, but it was rather limited to level complexity and difficulty.

    The new game mechanic will revolve around a small storm cloud in a different place on each level. When I animate the trailer it will give some back story to the game and the cloud itself.

    Here's a shot of all the "Meat Balls". On each stage you will have a certain number of each to choose from.
