I get this on application uploader: application failed codesign verification. the signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an iphone distribution certificate.

Did you followed the publishing videos in the cookbook ?
If you follow them step by step you should have no problems .

You probably signed it with a developer profile you don't use the same profile as the one to put on your device. You need to make a distribution provisioning one.

Ah, common mistake. People sometimes people don't realize there is a difference or mix up the profile. That's why I tell people to have only one developer profile for testing. Because we are a registerd company with Apple and not an individual we can use the * condition in our testing app ID which allows us to sign all our ad hocs with the same one and have them all installed at once but if you are a single user I recommend making a single testing app ID the only drawback is you can only have one app installed on the device at a time but it saves the trouble of managing all those app ID's. I imagine most people don't test more than one ad hoc at a time anyway. We only make new app ID's when we distribute makes it easy and our account doesn't get littered.

What i do to tell the difference, and i speak from experience because I did it twice in a row, is when i set up the profiles, I add it in the name, like "appnameDist" and for the developer I use "appnameDev". Saves me every time now, because I ALWAYS seem to pick the developer one when I don't specify what it is in the name.

@FBS Everyone can use wildcards ( * ) :) and have loads of apps installed on their devices.
