PNG export from Illustrator

HI,
I have a circle filled with a 3 color gradient. Now to its transparency, i've added the color dodge effect.
In illustrator the preview is exactly what m lookin for, but when i export the PNG "save for mobile & devices".. the effect is not visible when in GS.

Can anybody help me on that?

Hi @kinzua I'm not completely understanding that you added Color Dodge for transparency.... in Illustrator > Save for Web and Devices providing you've got Transparency checkbox selected, then all white areas will become transparent without the need for colour dodge (if I've understood you correctly). (unchecking the Transparency checkbox the background goes to white).

It'd be interesting to know if Apple Preview shows the PNG as you want...

    Hope that's helped out.

@gyroscope Hmm. you've right.. you have not understood my ques. Make an object in Illustrator. Give it a green color. Beneath it place a blue colored object. Now, open up the 'Transparency' window. You'll see a dropdown box, with 'Normal" written. Open the drop down and try the diff transparency effects. You'll know what my question is.

OK, understand what you're asking with your fuller explanation...

I've done a test this end using Color Dodge on one of the coloured boxes as you suggested; looking fine in Illustrator as well as in the Save for Web and Devices preview window; also in GSC, in the actor library, scene editor and Preview. Everything is as it should be....

Those transparency effects are called blending modes and are different form standard transparency.

I think the reason that you are getting a different "look" in Gamesalad is just because it does not have blending modes and is interpreting the transparency differently.

In Photoshop you can easily merge layers, rasterise layers or turn layers into smart objects - keeping the Color Dodge 'effect' but blending it in to the raw PNG pixels so that you can import it in to Gamesalad and it will look the same.

I'm guessing that you can do this in illustrator as well but I am far more confident in Photoshop.

Just did a quick test following gyroscope's instructions and it worked for me too....

Good thinking, @Indiegamedesigner about GameSalad interpreting the transparency differently: once it becomes a PNG exported from Illustrator, with the Color Doge included but now as part of a flat image, all GSC needs to do is see it as that flat image. All dodge, exclude, etc, effects are now shown as the result only within the flat image.

ya .. i went about doing the same trick.. a flat png wont exhibit the same 'look' unless it has a desired background to it. Hey @indiegamedesigner can you post something from your experiment.

GS background is black, and Illustrator has a white workspace. Could that be the problem you are having? Black is going to have a different effect than white when it comes through the image because of transparencies.
