The Promo Codes & Review System

I'm about to publish my 3rd game and I haven't published one for a good 6 months or so. Back when I just finished publishing Spazcon, Apple changed their policy on Promo codes and how they affect Reviews. Can you still not rate/review a game or app with a promo code? If so, what alternatives are there that you guys use to get a few Ratings in? I've been reading some will gift or send people money other ways -seems odd. It just seems like Apple made it even harder for Indie's to get their name out there.

Make a good game and encourage people to buy it. Simple as that. ;)

My first game I made free for a few weeks and got some reviews, some were awesome....some were awful/harsh ....but it was my first game

From the iTunes Connect Developer Guide: It is not possible for App Store customers to rate or review an app if it is downloaded using an iTunes Connect promotional code. Customers can review an app by purchasing it on a different iTunes account using something other than an iTunes Connect promotional code, such as a Gift Card, Gift Certificate, or other payment option."

Just a word of advice, if one is serious about game development, you should read this stuff. I see so many people on here who don't understand the terms or conditions there are signing up for. You're not going to make it as a developer if you don't take the time to understand what you are doing. If all you want to do is make a fun game that's one thing but don't have expectations of accomplishing much long term if you don't properly prepare yourself. Just food for thought.

@Bacon - Are you referring to me? What gives you the impression I'm not? I said it "seems odd" (that people would do this). I'm implying what Devs do to promo... I'm very much trying hard to do this FT. I've worked very hard on Tiny Diggers and have my some sacrifices :)

ps. I think us two in the same room would be quite funny with our east coast accents lol.

And in Nova Scotia (New Scotland) where I am, it's a mix of Irish, Scott and English. Yup we're a bunch of Mutts.

Hey Shane, I heard about the change Apple made about promo codes a while back, but I also heard that if you use a desktop computer, and go through iTunes to get the game, you can leave a comment. I did it, and it worked, but that was about 3 months ago. I don't know if it has changed since then, but I was able to leave a comment with a promo code doing it that way. Like i said, that was 3 months ago, or so.
