Highly Recommend Amazon Market

mikelowemikelowe Member Posts: 177
I'm not sure if this is still going on, but when I signed up for amazon it was free for a year (instead of its regular $99). I would recommend it because it is easier for users to find your app on amazon than on googles system.

On amazon I got 500 downloads in a week and on google only 20. There is something wrong when a user has to dig through pages and pages to come across your game by chance. Amazon seems much more promising at this point.

Hope this is helpful

    I would LOVE to get some of my apps on Amazon but the sound delay is just a show stopper!

    mikelowe, while I don't understand your logic of posting this thread, i'd just like to say, if a freeway is stopped with bad traffic announcing on the radio that an alternative freeway is empty would only jam the other one as well.
  • mikelowemikelowe Member Posts: 177
    My logic is that if a freeway is stopped with bad traffic, a large percentage of the people waiting are likely in a rush and could use a tip as to which freeway is better. :)

    Just trying to help

    The small delay we are getting on our app now is marginal so we are going to be on the amazon store in the next week! Just have some touch up work I put on hold until GS fixed the sound delay enough for us to submit.

    @tshirtbooth they were paid. And it was one app. I still have to upload some of my others. It is actually featured on the games homepage under "hot new releases". I'm excited about it.

    @FryingBaconStudios good luck! Hopefully it goes well.

    I agree @mikelowe Amazon is a better store and showing much promise. I have made $500 worth of sales since being on there (one App was done in GS). Both Apps are in Top 100 of the Entertainment App store and one of them is in the Top 500 overall. While no $500 in a week the acceleration in sales after Christmas has not reduced - things look good. I highly recommend it.

    yes, and if you keep at your your $500 a week may just turn to $50 a week =P I guess while it's very kind of you to do that, some of us rather drive 90 miles per hour on the free way instead of 40 because of the radio announcement. and yes I'm in terrible rush and yes I drive taxi cab and pick up people from/to airport for a living.

    You don't see TSB going around and telling people what to do to make more money =) you must be a born philantropist. (just teasing.)

    I think the point is simply more sales are likely on Amazon and to get your apps on there...I concur (disregarding the potentially frightening developer agreement) .
    If people don't want to be on there and miss sales I guess that is their choice :)

    My game, The Secret of Grisly Manor, is doing great on Amazon. Amazon sales will overtake the iOS version very soon if it continues like this. I recommend the Nook App store as well. Nook sales should overtake the iOS version as well.

    The Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet have very similar markets to the iPad market. If you have an app that does great on the iPad, it should do really well on those markets too.

    The regular Android market is much tougher as the store is harder to navigate. I still sell about 100 copies of the game per day, which certainly isn't shabby, but it is nothing compared to the other App stores.

    I wish everybody a prosperous 2012!!

    yes, at this rate i can see amazon overtaking ios. it is still a bit hard to imagine because i sell 3-4k a month on ios. i was very impressed with my first week on amazon. i will look into kindle and nook. thats a nice piece of advice

    @ultima, tsb may not have recommended an app market but he is quite possibly the most helpful gs user there is. its nice to give advice.

    Can't wait to get a Kindle Fire but we're having to wait until it gets a UK release and no one knows when that is.

    Is everyone still having Android sound latency issues? I know some fixes went in to 0.9.90 that should have improved that particular problem.

    @beefy_clyro
    Have you tried publishing an apk with the latest build to see if you are experiencing the same sound delay as before? Let me know, thanks.

    @GameTeamOne ... I have only tried it in the previewer ... i know school boy testing on my behalf. I will actually build an ad-hoc build today, try it and let you know here. Cheers

    @Ebreeze
    https://developer.amazon.com/
    Then click on "Amazon App Store for Android". You can sign up and even use a linked account with your usual amazon login. App approval process is longer than Google Android Market but that is because Amazon does some signing on their end. Amazon is a proven platform for customers who are willing to spend money and can track all their purchases conveniently. Probably beating a dead horse by now, but you and anyone who hasn't signed up should go do so right away!

    i still experience the sticky touch buttons problem.
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
    @GameTeamOne ... Ok managed to get an ad-hoc build after 3 attempts :) 1 was GS's fault, 1 was mine, the 3rd was a success. Anyway ... I don't think the sound is much better, there is still a very noticeable delay which feels like the game is lagging! I recorded an example on my phone to show you;

    Sorry for crap video, had to record from my phone.

    Not sure why the character stars off really big and shrinks down, would need to investigate that but i don't see that taking long .. Just the delay, it just does not look professional at all. I've only quickly knocked out this one as a test but i have other games that rely more on sound effects, this only has a couple and with it like that, i wouldn't release it. So as far as the Kindle Fire, i can't look at releasing yet!

    Would this same delay be present on a Nook? How about normal Android devices? I can only test on the Fire currently.

    Cheers

    @mikelowe thanks man, made me do a rethink on getting on the amazon market. What puts me off is the deal with international developers. Payments will be made out through checks in the mail. Bummer. This goes back to those days when I was dealing with handango and pocketgear ten years ago. It takes a good 4 weeks to receive and clear the checks.

    All with sound issues still, I will bring it up with the proper folks.
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
    Thanks @GameTeamOne, do we need to do anything else? Submit a bug report etc? Will you update us here or should there be a new thread?
  • GameTeamOneGameTeamOne Member, PRO Posts: 88
    @beefy_clyro
    I don't think a bug report is necessary. We are all aware of the potential for audio to lag on Android. The fixes will come as soon as they can - we are not ignoring the issues.

    Thanks all for being patient.

  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
    @GameTeamOne Ok cool, thought that would be the case but didn't know if the projects that the team had tested were pretty close to being in sync and that they may want to see mine to see why its still a fair bit out. I guess as its the Android issue it doesn't really matter and they are working on it. Thanks

    Apparently according to fryingbaconstudios it was fixed for him a while ago.... Maybe its only some users

    @mintmomeg I am having the problem with audio still playing as well. It seems to happen when you have a looping audio file.

    As far as the delay, it is much better on the fire than it was before, but is still there, I think it just depends on what each person is willing to live with as to wether or not you want to put your app for sale.

    @beefy I used to have the delay just as bad on my droid 2 as my fire, but its almost not noticeable on my droid 2 now. Much better on the droid 2 than the fire.

    I just ended up making versions of my apps using music for sound, even though its so limited and takes away so much from the game. I do have about 5 apps left that have to use audio as I change the pitch on the fly. The delay I could live with for the types of apps I have left but the audio continuing to play after you exit keeps getting my apps rejected from B&N and Amazon.

    Just a little update.... Got ~400 more downloads these last two days (today included). Can't wait to get my other games approved for sale! Now I can definitely see the amazon market taking over the business... I just hope they don't take longer than apple with reviews. Anyone know about how long they take? I didn't count for my first game.
