Changing category in iTunes

KatAppsKatApps Member, PRO Posts: 84
Hey all,

So I'm doing some updates on apps and changing some of the categories for them so they'll show up in a different place in iTunes. I know when you do an update in GS it allows you to select the new category and sub-category... but how do I do this for the iTunes store?

I'm asking because I submitted an update for an app and changed the category from "Entertainment" to "Game" (in GS). It was accepted by apple but is still showing up only in the Entertainment category in iTunes.

Anyone know how to get this right? Thanks!

First there is no need to open multiple threads on the same subject .

Now , changing categories "IN GS" is referring only to GameSalad Arcade , and not to iTunes connect .
If you want to change category to your app , you can do it only when you set up a new app and only when its "waiting for review" , meaning once it got to "In review" you can't change it no more (this applies to keywords as well)
So in itunes connect , go to your app , and "view details" there you should be able to change category for your app.

    Cheers.

Yeah forget about the info you put into GS all data like POM said in iTunes.

Sorry, didn't realize the thread had posted twice!

So what you're saying is when updating an app, you cannot actually change the category (except in GS arcade, that is), and you can only select the category when first making the a NEW app.. is this correct?

I've read somewhere else that you could change categories in updates, so this is why I got confused. Anyways, thanks for the clarification!

Hmm, i wasn't aware i said that , you got this all wrong
If you go to iTunes connect , and create a new version (update) to your app , you can change the category of your app in the "Version Information" section!

In fact i just did it yesterday ;)

Ok, I see what you're saying now. I just checked on some apps in iTunes that I have "waiting for review" and changed some of their categories like how you mentioned above. It worked! Thanks Roy! :)

Speaking of categories.. maybe you'll know the answer to this one too Roy...

In iTunes, they ask you to select a primary and secondary category. What's the purpose of the secondary category, do you know? It seems like apps only appear in the primary category you select.. so.. just curious.
