It's an interesting concept - I like to read the words that are faded out. :)
The above image isn't going to be the real iPhone icon is it?

i think it might be the app store icon, but on the phone just an icon that has "no Hands" or something.

i think on the app store the icons are big enough you can read the text... i could be wrong tho

since i know whats on it i can easily tell even when its small on the iPhone. but i don't know what other kind of icon i would have that shows what the app does or catches attention

@morphinegamingmachine - most dislike text on an app icon. It looks to complicated.
Come up with a symbol that represents your app well.

The app store icon and the icon on the device have to be virtually identical, you'll get away with a slight change but thats it. The icon you have demonstrated above will look awful scaled down and you won't be able to read anything.

do you have any suggestions for what the app icon should look like then?
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
Design in mind that whatever it is has to scale down to 57x57 ... Once you try something, scale the image down to 57x57 and see how it looks. It should be quite simple, lots of words aren't going to work!

hate to be the one to calls it out, but it's been done just in case you haven't seen it... or maybe you have... just saying because it defeats the purpose of making the app... because buyers who's seen the original will just say "but it is .. just another clock that tells time via words" and since the original design is a actual physical product (who also made the iPhone version, you might end up being sued... don't be discouraged, but try another clock =)

Yeh i've seen its been done before and there is a risk of reviewers sayings its a copy of xyz ... but doesn't every game/app virtually run that risk? I fail to see how he could get sued, no way can they be the only ones allowed to have an app that tells the time by text! Im no lawyer so don't take my opinion as gospel.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/time-in-words-qlocktwo/id317894604?mt=8 yes but tell me he's not risking himself. =) just trying to help.. you know apple can even shut down his account.

it just feels like it's not worth the risk for such little money to be made.. but anyways go ahead if you really want to make it, i like the concept anyway.. if it's just an app you'll be ok, but they have the actual product that was designed a while ago, it's like no matter what you say, you will lose..

yes everything we do has that risk, heck most of the time we haven't even seen the "original" (whoever happen to have done it first)... so unless it's an "improvement" the law deems unfavorable to the latter.. i'm calling it out because it seems like he hasn't seen it otherwise he wouldn't have word it the way he did... i'm assuming.

Granted, thats the one i was thinking about but look at all the angry bird clones, which was a crush the castle clone for example. Content is copyright but concept is not. Its not my risk to take at the end of the day and i appreciate you are only trying to help

=) yes, preciously what i mean, if it's an app it's probably ok, because there hasn't been so many internet piracy cases in court for the judges to know what to do with them... and most of the time, it's hard to gauge how much sales impact you are effecting .. since everything is virtual... to be protected (and i've said this before) you need to improve at least 70% of the product ... and his app and the one shown, i'd say there's about 20% difference to say at the least... which doesn't protect him at all =), but anyway... who am i say to anything haha... i've always discourage anyone who tries to copy anything, and everything,, even if it's just slight bit and i've always stand firm on my believe, that creative intellectual property is as valuable as tangible possessions, just doing my good old.... "hey taking things from other's isn't such a good idea" remark =) and thanx beefy for the kind response.

we all have our point of view =D and they are... just that... our personal point of view haha.
this is nothing serious.. and probably a letter of intent will simply ask him to remove the app (if the original company decides to pursue him)... but anyways... i just hate for GS users to be called copy cats.. because we are better than that.

I saw many versions of the real clock, its a common do it your self project. instructables.com has like 10 different instructions for how to do it. i was thinking of doing one and said, forget about it ill make it on my phone. that was my inspiration. but i wasn't aware it was already an app.
but rly i have no problem if it is, I'm gonna put it up for sale because a buddy of mine wanted the real life clock bad so ill give him this option. there are more then 100 emoji apps, and i still took the time to code a new one that i thought had easier instructions. so i still think its original and fun

I have other original app ideas, and fly every app "concept" has already happened, but i feel my settings will give it a customization that outweighs the similarities.

thank you for having my back on legal advise tho

if i was your friend, i'd be more than happy to receive the "other" clock in "gift this app" form... inspiration is one thing, taking things and improving is another, having your own app ripped off by another person is ... completely different, if I was the original creator... i'd be pretty piss off.. and will probably mobilize an army of lawyer lol... but anyways not judging here...

some of us here are still recovering from the trauma of our titles being ripped off and i tell you it's no joking matter.

    cheers,
