Crazy mike apps? Worth $70?

Hey guys,

I submitted my app to crazy mike apps, and I got an email back today saying that he can review and upload a video to YouTube for $70. Do you think it's worth it?

He said it would get an average of 4.1 million views, or something like that.

sorry to jack your thread.... i posted this on another you posted on hoping you would see it

    "@Braydon_SFX

your a graphics guy, and id like to say i can throw code together pretty fast, as can you (I've watched some of your game thread for penguin pounce)

Do you want to team up at the global game jam on january 27th?? I live in Plano (at least my siblings and parents do, right by you) so we could to the game jam at Collin College (community college in Plano) or down in Austin at University of Texas! Game Salad headquarters is located pretty close to UT! maybe we could get a sneak peak in there! The global game jam is a "make a game in a weekend" kind of event, free entry!

    Email me at

even if you can't/dont want to go, it would be nice to chat with a fellow texan!"

also, i don't think he can really get 4 million view EVERY review he does.... but even 500k might be worth 70 bucks

Really? What was your experiences like using this guy for $70 @tshirtbooth & @beefy_clyro because I REALLY want a solid person to have do advertising for me.

I was looking at some thing that ranges up to $2,000 today. I contacted one of his clients to ask how it went his client said he was ok but suggested I didn't...
so yeah. I think advertising is a big key to making good games get noticed.

Like "Spin the Nut" for iPhone which is made by GS which is as good as "Cut the Rope" or at least close to it in my opinion.
I think it would of been a huge success given it got some more exposure.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the replies.
I think I might go with him. Hopefully it'll boost my sales.

Oz- it would still be great if you could do a video review. Thanks

    Thanks again!

Just a little bump - I am still questioning if it's worth $70 for that review.
Seeing that I have only made $50 (after Apple's cut) off my app, do you still think its a good investment?

If possible, maybe give a description of how it boosted your sales.

He also has others services like you can have a banner on his site etc.
  • SteverdSteverd Member Posts: 194
I would say if you have $70 to spear or waste to do it.
After all you can deduct it on your taxes as a business expense. I would put it as an advertising expense.
BUT have you read many of Mike's reviews? He's a YES MAN, he likes almost EVERYTHING that he post.
When I did reviews on youtube (I have about 300) I did them for FREE and could easily be objective and
when it was bad, I could easily say it was bad.. I seriously do not trust ANY of his reviews.

To me it's more for the publicity then the rating.
I want people to know about the app and go buy it. :)

    Thanks for the reply,

@uptimistik ha - some of these publishers pay thousands for prime ad space... and then get a crappy review. hahaha. But I think that's a good thing for the integrity of the site.

We're prob gonna do a fairly significant campaign for Ao.

We're still planning it but I'm of the view that it's almost gotta be all or nothing. Just a couple ads/reviews here and there won't do much. You gotta have your icon all over the place at the same time to make an impression.

@ozboybrian Click on all things apple.

Would be interesting to hear how @MagoNicolas is getting on with his TA ads. Has it been worth it?

@tshirtbooth I had watched Crazy mike apps youtube channel, and he have pretty low number of views on his video-reviews (average about 350). Is it worth 70$??? Cause I can get more views on my channel.
  • SAZ_1SAZ_1 Member Posts: 397
yea his youtube vids don't get many views, but he's got a ton of subscribers on twitter, i reckon it would probably be good just for publicity.
  • imGuaimGua Member Posts: 1,089
@SAZ_1, hm... that's strange. I get a feeling that hes somehow cheat to get this many followers, using bots\fake accounts or something. Cause it dosen't make sense. I mean a huge difference between number of followers and youtube views.
  • imGuaimGua Member Posts: 1,089
32000 followers => 350 views. Something is definitely wrong here. Btw, even touch arcade have less followers.

MY TA Ads has NOT been worth it, even whit my free game, I don't get so many downloads because of Touch Aracade Ads.

    Found it here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=118381
I don't mean to be mean to you Mike, but you did a video for us a month or two ago and your review on our game touched on the first 5-6 levels or something and it was really kinda sad because there is so much more content in the game. And we paid for that video. It's obvious you don't have the time to go through every game and make videos of in depth reviews...but if you're going to charge that much cash for a review, you would expect at least SOME semblance of research into the game. It was almost like you didn't have time, but wanted to quickly get it out. Again, I'm not coming down on you, just describing what we got for our money. We had 0 return from that review. Not one sale...and the video is now at 324 views, 111 on the first day, and hasn't been looked at since Nov. 29th. So for the money invested, we really didn't get ANY exposure and anyone interested. I even responded to one of the 4 comments on the video and that person didn't even reply, which makes me wonder if they were even real.

So for what, 120 bucks or whatever it was, we got 0. Obviously you want to help your customers, that's how you keep them and create repeat business right? So I don't fault you for nothing happening. But when I put my game out for free and it's like #2 in Japan and #4 in Canada, I wonder why it's not worth the dollar for the 150 levels of fun we created. We can't spend 120 bucks on nothing every day to try and make it so we make 5-10 bucks a day. So really all these promotions that we've been approached with are kinda not geared for the proper exposure needed to get the word out. They might be the way things worked with larger scale companies that have a full force campaign, but for indy devs it's just giant wads of cash thrown into a blender... like fighting a mosquito with a machine gun.

Again I'm not upset at all with you Mike Don't take that as bashing... it's just reflection on the process that happened.

thanks for posting this info back up man... its always extremely difficult for us indie devs to market with massive companies like chillingo killing us, and yea fake advertising can be difficult so on.. i think the main problem with crazy mike is he posts too many tweets/links etcs. so the video may have gone unnoticed... having said that its strange because you mention some good points in regards to his twitter account linked with the vid views.. im kind of baffled as to what im going to do for advertising this time round... i spent a hell of a lot of money on pocketgamer and got squat all back in comparison... just not worth the money...

I did use crazymakeapps services for Go Fishing! [Free] game. He made review almost at the same time as dailyappshow did. In both cases we had buy, not the cheapest pack. There was a boost of downloads for 2 days (lot less than 100% boost). And on the third day we got lowest downloads in app history.
