How do you choose a font for your project?

What's a good way to choose a font? I'm gonna make a custom font so I'm not limited to GS fonts. I usually just choose randomly but since there are so many options it can be daunting. Are there some good go-to fonts for most projects?

@T8TRG8TR First, check out dafont.com. There, pick out a font that fits both the feel of the game and is clearly legible at small size. Professional looking also helps.

That being said, for a game with bright colors and a cartoony feel... Grilled Cheese Toasted is also my favorite. :)

I just found a Grilled Cheese font for free here:

Is this legit? It works but it seems like from what you guys are saying its not supposed to be a free font...

That doesn't seem to be the complete font. Doesn't it come with an outline version too? The site credits http://www.fontdiner.com/ for the font. But I don't see Grilled Cheese on their website. However, Font Diner has lots of free fonts some of them really nice. Look under Free Silverware.

[Edit] Unfortunately, their free fonts come with a license restricting free use to personal non-commercial projects only.
