FYI for New Releases in the App Store

So last week, Kidz Phone Deluxe was released.

I received an email from Apple at around 9am on 2/12 saying the application was accepted, so I thought, considering how early the time was, and how they hadn't posted 2/12 applications yet, that I thought it would appear in the new releases since they seem delayed in the App store. So I posted a release date of 2/12 thinking it would show up....

I checked the new release list at around 10pm before I headed to bed, and it still showed 2/11's releases, so I figured, at some point mine would show up...

To my dismay, the next morning I looked at the new releases, and mine was nowhere to be found!

This is a lesson to me, and I will be re-uploading the application as I already pulled it from the store the moment this happened, that you should always post a release date for the next day.... even if your application is accepted early in the morning, always change to the next day to appear in the new releases!

My mistake, my lesson, just wanted to share with those of you who are new to this and may not know the in's and out's of the app store :)

what/where is the link you're referring to for the 'new release list'?

Does it matter if the release date doesn't match the first day that people can download it?

I have seen several posts on he dev paging saying se way in the future and the. When you get te email the. Set it to the same day. Apple uses the lesser of the two so being the same you get max exposure. In short they sort by your release date but post by their approval sine it is the lesser. If you date is prior to te approval date that's when you get screwed. Because your release date now becomes the lesser.

I have found several posts saying to this and it has worked for me every time t get right in the top of the new release page.

From what I understand this method not only gets you in the right lump but at the top of the lump.

excuse my ignorance, but just to understand...
if apple approved monday and I had set my release date for tuesday, does that mean I have to change my release date again for some time in the future like friday and that will put me in top of new releases for friday and possibly through the weekend?

So my question is: Given my exposure to web site traffic patterns for a typical non-holiday week, is there a preferred "future" date to set it for (i.e. a Monday/Tuesday) as opposed to just any old day that is a day or two out? I ask, as web site traffic generally starts declining Thursday and into the weekend so Monday through Wednesday would see more traffic. Friday/Saturday is a time for people to plan their weekend festivities and get out of work early to get a jump on things. Sunday is a slow down day for many and is also affected by religion.

Not sure this would hold for apps but I would think to some extent it would.

Holiday are a completely different story (i.e. know your key shopping days prior to the holiday).

I guess I could look at some reported sales stats for existing app in some of the app revenue blogs. I know TSB posted some sale counts but I don't know if he included the date/day-of-week.

Good to know!! I was wondering with the demographics being the younger set as well as the get it now aspect of apps. I guess when they are socializing, a lot of "check this app out" type of stuff goes on.

    Thanks for the info TSB!
