Why do gamesalad android games need internet access?

For those of us able to publish android apps, our apps request the following:
android.permission.INTERNET
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

I remember reading another post on here somewhere about amazon rejecting an app because the app clearly does not need internet access.

I've just submitted some to amazon and I'll see if the reject it or not.

Either way I don't think the apps need internet access and this requirement should be removed. I'm sure some sales will be lost because many people don't want their apps accessing the internet and using data when their not on wi-fi.

Yeah, I didn't think of that tshirt, that could be.

It also says that it needs the accelerometer even though I did not check it when I published the game.

As a producer of Children's product anyone tracking my users makes me very uncomfortable!

I'm confident that its not tracking any personal information.. what they are talking about is tracking things like crashes.. maybe how many times an app is launched.. etc. its not tracking GPS locations or credit card information. Almost everything done on mobile / web is tracked in some sense for metrics.. a lot of data can be gathered without needing to knowing the really specific stuff.. i doubt the app is actively pulling any information from the device and probably only knows the information thats in the game itself and even then.. say you had kids enter their name.. GS wouldn't know what to do with that in any meaningful way...

I have had no problem with amazon reject apps. In fact I'm confident thier review process is even more useless than apples. My first app I sent to them was affected by the off behaviors not being off bug. So on launch the very first thing that pops up is a request to activate GameCenter. If amazon had halfway looks at the game they should have realized hmm amazon doesn't have GameCenter.

Thanks SSS for the info. We were just concerned our Children's brand might be trashed because of the sensetivity to tracking. We don't need lawyers chasing us either....lol. So it's good to know it's all above board!

yes so far 90% of the games i downloaded on my galaxy tab needs internet access, maybe due to the in game purchases that is available and also some games has data saving feature to an online server.

I understand that but Amazon is rejecting some apps because they say they require internet access, but don't actually use it. We could possibly put up an external link, but that does not work on android either.
