Need some app store strategy advice

Ok so i have really researched this a lot but I'm really not sure on this one.
Could really use some opinions.

Here is my situation. Doodle monster is getting on the adventure chart. Yesterday peaked at 76 and hopefully can maintain that a few days. However i used my second chart as action (tough competition) from what i have researched and I would need to be around number 50 or so before even scratching the action top 100. WHich i'm not counting on.

So, i was thinking about moving from action to kids. Seems i would have a better chance there and i will stay on the first page longer I think.

DOes anyone know much about changing categories? ups downs?
For example i know if you go to free you lose your rank completely if i switch catagories would my sales count towards the new category rank.

Sorry a lot of questions but its a tough one to research.

If anyone else is curious this is about all i could find.

It does appear safe to change to a category with less competition

My problem is still rather or not it is a good idea

The app store is a 'game' all unto itself isn't it? hahaha

I don't know about losing your rank if you switch categories. But I do think it's important to make one change at a time and give it some time to see if anything changes. Right now I'm playing around with free vs paid versions. I don't have any results to report yet, but I will once I know more.

Good luck and don't be afraid to mix things up a bit. You're playing with rank, which I think is a smart thing to do. But it would totally suck if you mistakenly reset it by switching. Maybe an email to apple is in order via iTunes connect?

    Thanks,

If it helps there is quite a bit of free vs paid info out there

One things that seems to stand out is seeing your ratings drop

Also lets say if you are #52 in action and you change to free you start at scratch. If you go back to paid you dont get to go back to your ranking there either.

Companies will give a game out for free for a limited time but they are either taking a risk or very confident about the viral effect it will have. Once they go back to paid they have no rank and no benefit if being on the release date page either.

I guess if you are Avatar or something you could probably do that that and be pretty confident your brand alone will at least get you back to the top 100
