In need of a pirate (NO PAY)

Yes this is a no pay job but if your okay with that I would be so grateful if someone could make me a pirate. I would prefer it to be cartoon if you can do that. I will give cred to you in my game if you want to.

Bonus: I will give you a splash page of your company/group at the beginning of the game if you can also make a cartoon ninja.

Why don't you just offer a cut of the revenue?

I hear this question asked a lot when people ask for small items of art for their game for free.

What percentage would people suggest is fair, considered against the totality of a whole game, for a single image of a pirate - or four images, for example, if they wanted it animated?

I'd say .1% - but then I think it's silly to ask for one piece of artwork for a game. I mean, how will the rest of the art fit in with the pirate, for example?

People are better off asking for a whole bunch of graphics, at which point, yes, a % of sales might make more sense!

    Cheers,

    QS :D

You know QS, you're right. Psy, even getting just one piece of good art, it will probably clash with the rest of the graphics. In my projects, I'm having the artist design everything down to the last button so that there is a sense of cohesion. And from what I've seen so far, great art is probably the most important step to generating sales. It is the screenshots that will make the difference. I probably put a greater premium on art than other GS users, but I'm convinced that the art is the gateway to great gameplay. That without art, a user may never get to experience the fruit of a coder's efforts.

If I were you Psy, I'd offer a reasonable cut to an artist to do the entire project. If you really don't want to spend the money, you can find free graphics online that will suffice. They won't make your game great, but as the saying goes... "Takes money to make money".

Ah, but then there's the second problem - how do you make sure you get all the art? And if you're the artist, how do you make sure the game gets made?

It's tricky - I feel bad for kids because many just can't afford an artist, but want to be taken seriously when they present their games.

The idea here is to chill out a bit. You don't have to be a professional at 12 years old. You can just make games for fun!

But at the same time, because the app store is very professional these days, don't expect to sell millions of copies of your game. I mean, good on ya if you do, but you should be expecting to sell about 20 copies or so if you have bad artwork.

I see so many kids wanting to be taken seriously. Claiming they're better than they are, or selling more than is believable.

Just be a kid and enjoy life!

Of course, this goes for some adults as well ;)

    Haha, agreed.

Psy, here's a link to public domain clipart. I'm sure you can find something useful!
