About the game:
Join Sir Gawain on his quest to find and defeat the legendary Green Knight.
The Green Knight is a lovingly crafted platformer in the mould of Super Meat Boy that features hand-drawn artwork, an original soundtrack and a large world map with a variety of locales, tons of bosses and gameplay changing items!
Note: the game is inspired by the traditional tale of Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, in-game areas are based on real world locations near to and where the legend supposedly took place.
About me:
Who am I? I'm a struggling, independent videogame designer based in Stoke-on-Trent, England. I've released a couple of games so far, and they are available on the iOS app store and my website... but they haven't made me enough money to fund the development of this game.
I create all of my games from scratch, myself, and I spend a lot of time drawing out all of the artwork and preparing it for use in-game. It's pretty time consuming but ultimately very rewarding.
I'm passionate about games, and I want to create extremely enjoyable experiences that everyone can play, but I don't have a lot of money to spare on projects like this, and this is why I need your help.
Whether or not I meet the goal amount, the project will go ahead, it just may take a little longer. It will definitely be released on iOS devices. The HTML5 browser version hinges on gaining funds to invest in the tools for development, but ultimately this version of the game would be free to play, and is something I'm planning on happening in order to reach the maximum audience.
How YOU can help! - any combination of the following are appreciated
Donations: Your contributions will help to pay for various licenses and software costs, and also fund the time consuming creation of all of the in-game artwork and audio.
Sharing: Link to my game page through the likes of facebook and twitter, share it with your friends and help raise awareness by spreading the word that The Green Knight is coming!
Ideas: If you have any great ideas that you think will improve the game, feel free to contact me on here, pm or reply to this thread, or via twitter @mattyr64

The app I'm working on will also have hand drawn graphics, and I've started following your Tumblr. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
Hopefully, the games direction will become a bit clearer as development progresses as I have a pretty clear set of goals in mind (and on paper!)
I've described it as being super meat boy-esque, but this is really in terms of the level types and the style of control. There's also a metroid-like item collection element, where certain items are required in order to progress to new areas on the world map. The world map itself is a zoomed out view akin to that found on mario world, where there are sets of levels based around area themes, with bosses at the end of each area. On defeating the boss, you gain access to another area or an important item (shield,sword,bow,lance... maybe even a horse).
I love the tale of The Green Knight, especially the Simon Armitage interpretation. I actually live really close to an area that is rumoured to be the place where Sir Gawain's encounter with the Green Knight took place. I try to visit often and get really inspired by the atmosphere of the area. I've taken tons of photographs, and researched a lot and I'm trying to incorporate local legend and real locations into the game.
... look at this for a magical photograph, this has not been edited either!
oh yeah, almost forgot...
