Hi all,
Over the last week or so I've been working up another educational title. I previously did a little kids phonics game which has been a steady and good seller over the last year, so fancied having a go at something else.
This one is a primary (elementary) school kids compilation of games for practicing various mental calculation skills. In my other life I am actually a primary school teacher and we use a number of online flash games for maths ('math' for americans), but most of the stuff in the appstore that is broad ranging maths skills is kinda crap. So even if I sell no copies I will still be using it for this next school year.
I decided to mostly use templates for the games in this compilation. The reason being, I kept seeing templates being advertised and kept thinking how good they would be for the maths thing I was planning. I even used the graphics from a template in 1 of the games (I know, I know .....) but I did some major changes to the gameplay in all of them to make them into Maths games.
Here is a little preview video:
The games included are:
Multiple Slime Climb
Choose a times table and then help your slime climb up the tower popping only bubbles from that times table. Hit a wrong one and it's game over.
Orderly Birds
A simple place value game. Order the birds by numerical value. Includes numbers from 1 - 20 all the way to 2 decimal places (depending on the difficulty chosen)
Divider Slider
This one's not a template. Move your monster to the correct answer to the division calculation. If you're ready in the right place when the timer stops you'll safely avoid the huge heavy log that comes crashing down.
Missing Numer Skydiving
This is the one where I actually kept the template graphics. I thought they were perfect and to replace them would have been to have just redrawn the same thing. Anyway ... in this game you choose a target number and then you are given either addition or subtraction questions (chosen in the menu) with 1 number missing. You have to guide your skydiver through the correct answer.
Fraction Reaction.
Simply move the paddles to guide the correct fraction balls to the corresponding fraction on the large rectangle. Although in the video the shape is labelled, this is only for the first level as a guide.
I would like to think I have kinda done something different with templates again and not just republished the games as they are. And .... as I said previously, working with templates to actually make a new game can sometimes be as hard as starting from scratch.
Let me know your thoughts on the app. It will be submitted tomorrow hopefully when I have finished the screenshots.
Cheers
