My LITE version was rejected?! Anybody have THIS problem?

The LITE version of my game "Divine Wind: Kamikaze!" got rejected, and the rejection email said I was in violation of rule 2.9:

"2.9: Apps that are “beta”, “demo”, “trial”, or “test” versions will be rejected"

My full version was approved last week, and now I need a LITE version as a marketing tool. Nowhere in my LITE app is the verbiage “beta”, “demo”, “trial”, or “test” used. It is a "LITE" version, and there are hundreds of thousands to LITE games in the App Store. Are they cracking down on LITE versions all of the sudden, starting with me?

They suggested I opt for "In App" purchases rather than try to redirect users to the app store to purchase the full game for ¢99. But the free GameSalad membership does not support "In App" purchases as far as I know.

Anyone else have a workaround? Will I get rejected if I upload a "Divine Wind: Kamikaze! FREE" version? Anyone with similar experiences, please share what you did to bypass this crazyness!

I can't help you as I haven't published an app yet, but I'm bumping this because I'm intrigued by what other people have experienced.

Maybe try to upload it again. Maybe you'll get a different reviewer. Some of them seem real strict about things. Someone here had an app that got rejected, and they just re-sent it without doing anything to it, and it got approved the second time around.

Write a note in your re-submission that it is part of your business plan to have a Lite version of your game and thank them for their understanding.

It must be a fully functioning game. You can not show say locked worlds for instance saying its unlocked in the full version. As long as your game is just say the 1st 10 levels and then contain a link to the full version you should be alright.

same thing happened to me.. i responded that there are millions of lite version games, and they simply responded with the same thing "2.9: Apps that are “beta”, “demo”, “trial”, or “test” versions will be rejected"

i have 5 listings in app store now, and this only happened to one of them. and i submitted the listing 3 times already so far... at this rate i'll be forced to use another platform if GS doesn't give us a date as to when IAP will be available.... forced... it wasn't by choice..

Yeah, it has to be a "lite" version of your game. Meaning that you cannot have anything that limits it versus the full game. So if you're game has 25 levels, then release a game that's a "Lite" version that has only 5 levels or whatever. You can't put down that in the full game there are much cooler options or that it's more fun or better in some way.

My lite app got approved yesterday so theres definitely no crack down. Some people have reported this in the past and it's usually a case of the lite version having the features visible but not accessible. If that's not the case then just submit it again :D

Another Reason for In App Purchase!

I have had this problem once, I just change the name to Lite instead of Demo, and was approved.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the tips & feedback, guys! After stewing on it all afternoon, I thought of a slick way to turn my LITE version into a prequel of sorts. The LITE version already had an exclusive level, so I'll just remove all references to FULL version and have a link/closing window which says "thank you for playing this game, if you enjoyed it, you may enjoy this other game with more levels and features..."

No references to LITE, no references to FULL. It'll just become a free, watered-down standalone app which casually mentions the existence of a very similar 99¢ app in the App store. I'll repost here if/when it gets approved (it'll probably take over a week or so).

Don't throw away the value of the lite app. Mine is riddled with links and banners to the full version so I don't think thats the problem. One thing to note is that I never use the word "buy" or mention price in any of it. I have "full version" and then an image of apple's "available on the app store"
