I decided to use pixel art for my new game. Being a teen, I went the DreamLab method: DIY on a website called Piq. I made three images at http://piq.codeus.net/u/mahadeva

Seriously, you young 'uns need to learn some bloody patience!
As to the art... well. Compare it to other pixel art yourself.
What do you think?

What I would suggest is making small thumbnail sketches on a piece of scrap paper first, then just recreate the line art as pixels. Work on that, get some more critique, then think about colouring.
Sorry, not trying to be purposefully harsh btw, just trying to give you some genuine feedback.

What I'd suggest is, working with the largest pixels possible until you are more skilled and confident. If you work with smaller pixels without thinking about the things I mentioned it will just look messier.
Like I said, I'd try drawing out on paper some rough ideas first. Then try copying a concrete design into pixels, but just the outlines. Work on these, get critiques, acknowledge where you need to tighten up the drawing, do it. Then get onto colouring. But like they say, don't try to run before you can walk. Practice, practice, practice!
To those of you who vote, if you kindly would, explain your choice.

The best way to do this is draw pictures more detailed (on paper for example). Then go to less detailed untill the point where it doesn't look good any more.
What I am trying to say is draw with only the details needed to make clear what it represents. It's a fine line but with practice you will get there.
I used to be a cartographer and this is a
Close art form. Small maps have less detail but it is importand it is still clear what the country is you are drawing.
Jeep practicing. It looks pretty good already!

Its a really satisfying art style...
If you haven't go and check out Sword and Sorcery on the iPhone or iPad... its a stunning game made up entirely of pixel art. Think it got called 'THE' game to go and buy an iPad for at some point. Very cool pixel art done in a very stylised way... The actual game play is cool as well...and the audio... and err... yeah everything.
Also obviously check out my one step into pixel art...I ended up using photoshop with some setting tweaked to do the pixel art as its software I know pretty well.
