If you didn't had the time to at least modify the balls position of a very well known template you could've least made better graphics.

Don't take it personally. You are still young and you got lots to learn that is why we are here for you :). But to answer your question a great game its made from Originality, Amazing graphics and/or addictive gameplay.

The gameplay looks alright but the lack of graphics will probably prevent a lot of people from buying it. It just isn't visually pleasing enough.

Hi redsky, yes, Steve is right; also, a modicum of modesty always helps in more ways than one... "13 year old makes great game" is setting yourself up to be shot down, however young you are. And especially if the game is practically identical to a bought template, as has been mentioned.

And this is your third app? "Quality, not quantity" is worth bearing in mind, as well.

    Nuff said.

Also you still have about 20 min left to edit your title. I'd recommend something like "Check out my 3rd game, Bumper Balls!"

Why would you want your post deleted?
  • App SurgeApp Surge Member Posts: 651
because i screwed up and look like an idiot now
  • MegapixelIdeasMegapixelIdeas Member, PRO Posts: 476
I wouldn't say you look like an idiot. When I first started out I didn't make the best of games and now Id say that my games are fairly decent, a year later. All I can say is just keep trying and work hard and eventually you will become successful. Persistence pays off :)

thanks, but i just never should have done this forum thing, i want to delete it still :)

If I were you, I wouldn't want it deleted because it is still giving you advertisement. Hey just out of curiosity is your name Henry and are you 13 years old?
  • App SurgeApp Surge Member Posts: 651
    Yeah, why?
  • MegapixelIdeasMegapixelIdeas Member, PRO Posts: 476
I was just curious because I saw the keywords henry and 13 in your tags on the right and I was thinking his name must be henry and he must be 13. Anyway, Good luck on the app development and your game :)

Boy, all these posts can teach us ALL very good lessons: Gyroscope's "Quality, not quantity". GM forgot this and their cars got burned. Toyota remembered and sells millions. rodh100's "Keep trying and work hard". Rovio probably burned through dozens of prototypes before settling on Angry Birds.
Lessons we try so hard to remember, yet fail so hard at it.

I dont know about other templates but I played chalk buster and level design exactly like chalk buster. They used good graphics and effects. Sorry dont copy think out side of the box if you really want to achieve something in Appstore.

If there's one thing you've got to learn to be successful is to learn to accept criticism. God knows I can't stand for my work to be criticized, but I've learned it's best to listen to criticism as well as accept praise. I recently read a fantastic article in a magazine called HOW magazine. It was called "29 Tips for Young Designers." While it was written for visual artists and designers, especially designers doing client work, many of the ideas also do apply to game designers. Here's a link to an online version of the article: http://www.howdesign.com/design-career/29-things-young-designers-need-to-know/. Especially look at #1, #4, #5, #6 (from rejecting personal ideas) #7, #12, #13 (applies well here), #21 (also applies well in this situation) #25, #26, #27 and #29. I hadn't really expected that many to apply to game designers, but there you go. Just hang in there and remember that you can undoubtably improve if you work at it.

Also, #3 from the article! I am a type enthusiast. Everyone please remember the importance of type! Though I do disagree with the article's opinion on free fonts. Though most on dafont are terrible, I do love all the fonts on www.theleagueofmovabletype.com and I recently found some great ones from this article http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/12/17/25-new-free-high-quality-fonts-typography/ )

In addition to what others have said, I think you need to make a better icon and screenshots.

Think of your app as a magazine on the rack and your icon and screenshots as the cover. The more eye-catching and appealing your cover, the more likely the shopper is going to pick up your magazine and buy it. You want your icon to have a strong design that is readable and eye-catching, even at the small size. You want your screenshots to entice the shopper and pique their interest. Having the first screenshot shown being your level select screen (which consists of a bunch of colored squares with numbers in them) is not going to help entice someone to buy your game. It will more likely turn them off and cause them to look at another app.

You can't choose which screen shot is displayed first. For some odd reason the screen shot order always changes and is always different depending on what device you are on. I think it has to do with apples algorithm. It may be that the most viewed screen shot is displayed first.

You said that you changed the logo. Is your Gamesalad profile logo the new logo? If this is the new logo, One piece of advice that I learned a little bit ago is to not write the app name in the logo. The logo should only be an eye catching design.

That's very strange. On every device/PC I've looked at my apps on, the screenshot order is exactly the same and the order I specifically put them in. On my iPhone and on the web version of iTunes, the screenshot box has a slider bar so I'm not sure how a screenshots 2-5 could be more viewed than screenshot 1. I also checked out Bumper Balls on my iPhone and via the web version of iTunes and the screenshot order is identical.

Can anyone corroborate that you can't choose the screenshot order?
