Made with a newer version of GameSalad

I just started getting this message on one of my games I've been working on. "Project was created with a newer version of GameSalad Creator". I remember several months back some people having an issue with this, but I don't know if it ever got resolved. Anybody know of a fix? I tried opening saves from time machine, but I get the message "Document could not be opened. Unable to read file." Renaming the gsuser file didn't work either.

All my other games work fine. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the last thing I did was create a set of custom behaviors, saved, closed and restarted, and after that I started getting that message.

you have change your plish file so that your GS version is something else?

you can try to edit that GS version inside contents files and change the max version number in you project file

    hope it works, Calvin

Yeah, I tried changing the version, that didn't do it either.

If I try to open through the Creator, I get the "Made with newer version" message. And if I navigate to the file on my computer and double click it, I get the "Unable to open, can't read file" message.

it will always says "you need GS version 0.xx to open"

Well, I went back 2 days in time machine and found a version that opens. I'll just go from that. 12 hours of work lost, but it could be worse.

No, it just said "Made with a newer version of GameSalad Creator" never said what version was needed. I think the file just got corrupted some time back, because it was a while since I closed and restarted GS, so it has been saving corrupted versions for several hours. I went to bed with it still open, so I just had to go back far enough in time machine to find a good version.

Well, it keeps doing it to my file. I guess it's because of Lion, I dunno. I should have waited to upgrade, but I didn't. Looks like I'm on vacation until the next update.

So this might be a stretch, but do you have another version of GS on your machine? Sometimes, the default application to open up with will kick back to an older version of GS.

For me, I'll be working in 0.9.6, save my project, leave for lunch, come back, double click the project, and I get this same error. Low and behold, I find that the project file is trying to open GS 0.9.5 that I still have on my machine. So I right click > open with > and make sure I open with 0.9.6.

No, I only have the current version on my machine. I think i'm starting to narrow it down. It happens when I get to a certain part of my scripting.

I have attributes to keep track of my actors x and y speed onscreen, and I use those attributes to display those numbers onscreen. I am also using a save attribute when that scene ends for the x and y speed, but I'm not using the attributes I set up for those, I'm saving it straight from the default linear velocity attributes in the attribute browser, and loading them in another scene so the actor will resume with those same numbers when the new scene starts. When I get to that point, the logic works, but then the file gets corrupted. I think the conflict is going on somewhere in there.

After working with this game that had been giving me problems, it seemed to work fine for the last week. Today once again it corrupted, and it says it cannot open the file because it was made with a newer version of GameSalad. Try opening it by double clicking the file, and it says it cannot read the file.

I had a feeling about what it was that was making the corruption happen, and today I confirmed it. Filling out the Tags, Description, and Instructions is corrupting the file. When I filled out the information, I saved a couple of copies, and then I saved a couple more copies without the info. The files without that information filled out work just fine, and the files that I did save copies of with the information filled out were all corrupted. This is the only difference between those files. One was saved with descriptions fields filled out, and one was not.

I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue, but this was happening to me, and filling out the fields in the "Home" section seems to be the culprit.

Okay, so the moral of this story is this…

If you have an instructions page in your game that you made with Illustrator, do not copy the text as an object, and paste in into any of the fields on the GameSalad Creator Home page.

I tried to take a shortcut, and copy and paste the instructions from my illustrator file, and paste it into the instructions field in the creator. I was using a custom font, and used the transform tool on the text object. Somewhere along the way, this corrupts the GameSalad file if you copy and paste it into any of the fields in the creator.
