do I need to create my image twice for retina?

I am creating my first iPhone/iPod app, I have stayed away and made for iPad but I think its time..

I was wondering if I have to re-create each image twice for the retina? if not what resolution/dpi should my images be?

edit: should I also check "resolution independence?"

no just make 1 with retina support which is 960x640 @72dpi for full screen. if you plan to convert it to iPad in the future its best to make it 1024x768.

    hey there

first off you wanna make sure your images are even numbers when divided by 4, and also they MUST be 72 dpi

Other then that you just check resolution independcen and make your images are double the size you want the actors to be. So say your using R.I and you want a 50x50 actor. As long as r.i is checked you would make a 100x100 image. Then when you drag into gamesalad and make a actor out of it it will make the actor 50x50. You dont need 2 sets of images, gs takes care of all that for you. The 50x50 actor was made with high res art that was 100x100 so gamesalad will automatically display that on the iphone 4 and cut down to low res on the other devices
