I need opinions and suggestions on a cowboy drawing

Lately, I've been dabbling in the wonderful world of graphic design. Mostly, I've been working in Inkscape. I've begun work on a game about cowboys, and I made a picture for a top view of a cowboy. Since I'm only a beginner in this field, and I know there are tons of great artists (as well as people with an eye for detail) who might be able to help, I thought I'd share it with all of you. If you have any honest opinions or suggestions for improvement, I'd really appreciate it.

I accidentally took some yellow tones out of it while cropping. Hold on a minute.

I like it! The only thing I'd mention is either make the dark brown of the hat darker still, or the lighter brown slightly lighter: on some people's monitors you might not get the definition you're after. it looks like it could reduce nicely though and I'm interested in seeing the other graphics that'll go with it. A top-down shooter; sounding good!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try doing that.
It's not exactly going to be a top-down shooter, but it will have some shooter elements in it. I don't want to reveal too much until I'm further into the developing process.

Unless the cowboy is a kid with an adult hat, I would make the body wider and show some shoulders. Other than that, I like it.

Yeh shoulders may add to the effect, but experiment and see what suits best.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll definitely try the shoulders. I'll work on that now.

I darkened the shadows and added some shoulders. I also did a small bit of detailing on the hand. What do you guys think?

I like what you've done. As you asking for comments I will list the tweaks I'd go for.

I would use colour and tone to help separate different areas, such as the shirt/shoulders in a blue and lighter in tone than the hat. The gun reads as small and not very classic colt 45 so I would also work on that a little, and the flash of flames I would add rounded corners to so it visually sat with the rest of the drawing.

    Cheers kipper
