ri only effects non-retina devices. When you select RI GS makes low res versions of each image and loads those on non-retina devices and loads the originals on retina devices. Leaving it unchecked will mean that the old devices will load the hi-res graphics but because they have no retina support the graphics will look normal (shouldn't be bad or blurry, just not hi res). The problem is that the older devices will be loading into memory larger file sizes of each image with RI unchecked. So the point of RI is to allow new devices to have hi-res graphics because they have the processors to handle them while old devices can load smaller image files that their older processors can handle better.
So you should have no problem with the look of you game on any device. The older devices just might run at a lower frame rate.
