If there is a game online and I wanted to recreate it, would it be illegal it try to sell it on app store. If images are almost different and name is different, but gameplay is almost exact?

Note: The game is an online game I saw not on the app store

I'd say you're in for trouble. The thing is, if the images are only almost different and the gameplay is exact, thats probably some kind of violation (intellectual property, I think). I remember one guy here, his plane game was really similar to one on Kongregate, and they told him to shut it down.

well thats common sense lol if you have images that are "almost different" then your asking for trouble

Now you can use a game idea, look how many slingshot shooter type games have apeared after angry birds. you can use an idea, people do it all the time.

But you want all different art, different name, and different level layouts with your own original content added

Haha, the problem is is that the Origional game doesn't really have art. The player and everything else are squares. And there are only 2 colors in the game!

then add some cool graphics to it :)

or pick a theme for it and go from there. then you can add differnet power ups or whatver that go with the theme you picked

sounds like a good starting reference for a nice ios game!

It was to my understanding after I did some research.. and I also remember reading something similar by Tshirtbooth. That when it comes to gameplay in iphone games.. You can pretty much "copy" the gameplay of a certain game by changing absolutly every single graphics and maybe adding a perk or two to the game.

In my humble opinion just think about how many runners are out there or how many "stack em' up" games are out there.. They all basically have the same gameplay just very different art.

edit: I saw the posts by John after I wrote this LOL. So yea what he said
