Best Day to release app

Well Spazcon is in review right now. I've been hunting around to find out what the best day to release is.

One observation I have is that if I released it today, it wouldn't obviously make it into tomorrow's N&N cause it's only been out for one day. So I wonder if I'd miss the N&N boat all together? In other words is it better to release it on Friday, a day after Thursday?

Just a thought...

    From my experience - Thursday.

Thanks, yeah I've read that the bigger companies release on Thursdays.

I would imagine tho that Apple would not exclude an app from N&N if it was released a day before Thursday, for the following Thursday's N&N.

I think they might. its the same as why new music comes out on tuesdays. N&N are decided on thursdays. so releasing on thursday gives a full week to get noticed.

As mentioned in The Unofficial GameSalad Textbook, the best day to release your app is for the day after it is approved by apple.

If your app is approved by on Tuesday, and you wait until Thursday, you just wasted your "Release Date" listing.

Sure, it's nice to time it for Thursday, but the time it takes to review your app is a guess. If you think it takes 7 days to review your app, it could take 5 or 12.

So if a release it immediately after its approved I would only have the "release date" listing the remaining of the day?

    It's like this...

    • Today you get an email from Apple... your app is approved!
    • Quickly log into iTunes Connect and load up the app listing
    • Change the release date to tomorrow.

I'm close to the same time zone as apple, so it might be confusing for someone in Australia. Basically... think in Apple time. When I do it like this, my app appears on the "Release Date" list in the next morning.

Thats not true. I've waited a week to release an approved app and the release day changes. once it is made for sale. You just want to be sure to set the release date at least a day before so it has time to update and appear on the release date list.

Also even if before releasing once approved you can still send promos out to reviewers and ask for a pre-release review tell them its already approved and your release date, you may have a better chance at getting a review within your first week after release.

I've tried that. It didn't work for me.

I've had a few times the exact same thing Photics mentioned, i had this happen with my latest game SpiderBall on its iPhone release

I've done it twice. I actually removed one game from sale within minutes of it being approved and released it a week later and it switched over fine. I thought I was screwed on the release date but then sure enough it appeared on the first page of the list for at least two days. The next app I changed the release date once it went into review for two weeks out and it was approved I renewed promos in that time before the release and then it appeared on the release date list once it released.

Me too, I've waited a week and they have still appeared with the correct date and on the new release list. I thought apple had fixed this in the last few months.

This might be interesting, as it's a different take. Look for the bullet point on release days - http://futurebook.net/content/apps-will-feed-your-family-not-corporate-bottom-line-yet-–-pt-2a

It's very hit or miss with the release date changing. I've had it work, and not work, I think it all depends on your timing in getting into itunes connect and changing the dates.

If you do it prior to each evening, and change it to the next day, that's your safest bet, but it's a gamble changing the release date further than 1 day ahead because sometimes it doesn't work, and uses the old release date (when it was approved)

i consider this playing with fire. I always login once I get the app is in review and change it to the next day. I tried putting it in the future a few days once, and when it finally hit the store, it was buried 4 pages back.

    never again!
