as a recent first time publisher of a paid app I would be interested to see some numbers on how the lite fairs compared to the paid version in terms of downloads. 10 to 1 , 100 to 1?

It seems like a lite version is almost expected just curious about see how it effects sales.

    great art by the way!

Downloaded the Lite version - fantastic job - LOVELY graphics, music. Very polished. Congrats.

    How are the sales?

Well, we had a week of games/N&N where we were getting an average of between 80-100 a day.
Once the feature was over, we now get around 10 or so a day.

Slightly disappointing that it's not doing really much better then some of our less polished, less "good" games.
Also, we had a LOT of press when the game came out, at least 5 or 6 online reviews, including a 4/5 from 148apps, and was mentioned on a ton of gaming blogs.

The free one only went live at around 5pm uk time yesterday, and in that time did around 200 downloads. So tomorrow will be the best clue as to how well the lite is going to do....but looking at Majicrank, I think it's probably only going to be somewhere between 500-1000 downloads (just from where it's hovering in which charts in which countries....again, maybe a little disappointing.

I cant beleive this isn't doing better. the video promo you did really sells it.. and visually the screen shots look great on the app store..

I hope the free version makes a difference in sales

Yeah, good luck with it.... Its VERY good.... such a lottery....

I have a question re the graphics - love the 'textured' feel - as in Tiny Wings - is this simply a textured layer add to a clean image?

    Looks gorgeous..

It's just one of those things, that highlights the fact that making the game is only half the battle.

Remember Darren's Running Wild game? didn't do all that well when it was released, and yet when it went free for a while he was getting amazing numbers of downloads. (Which shows that it was something that punters wanted, they just didn't find it, or didn't want to spend 59p on it when it was out as a paid app)

It also goes to show the importance that a feature can make as opposed to any other kind of coverage. I said in a post yesterday, that 90%+ of your customers don't even know about the review sites etc etc EVEN touch arcade ;)

Like I say, it's a little disappointing given the amount of work we put in, and the amount of polish we bestowed on this one, but we will continue with our plan for the game. We are working on the first major update at the mo, which add a whole heap of new levels, and have the next update after that planned out too, which ads a whole new game mode.

    the short answer is yes.
the longer answer is, yes. We had a number of slightly different but similar textures that are applied to each image in slightly different ways as needed.

not to be an A hole, but i think u should be grateful for the downloads. considering angry birds pretty much dominated the appstore. my apps are selling as much (about 1-2 a day). and my apps are polished and have great music and gameplay.

be happy for your sales man :)

50-100 sales a DAY is FAR better than a couple or none.

also i like how the blocks SWING into the level and are held by that "chain". is there a tutorial on this?
  • SparkyidrSparkyidr Member Posts: 2,033
    @Aquarius
don't get me wrong, I was really chuffed with the 80-100 we were getting during our 6 days or so of being featured. Like I said, it really goes to show the power of being featured.

What I am disappointed with is the 5-10 (or less) a day it gets now, compared with similar numbers that our less polished (and being honest about it) less good games also get.

My starting point for that was t-Shirts swinging demo that he posted up aaaaaaaaages ago.
It needs a lot of tweaking to work in a nice way though.
If I get time, I will try to knock up a new version of that swinging demo for y'alls.

    that would be awesome.

and about the game sales, u were also reviewed on those sites. i'm sure that helps. did u pay for that or were u reviewed to ur surprise?
  • SparkyidrSparkyidr Member Posts: 2,033
Never paid for a review, I personally don't agree with that practice, and it's always been frowned upon in the mainstream print media for years...so I don't see why we should be held to ransom just because it's the new fangled digital age!

We did however pay for some PR (a short press release sent to a tailored mailing list etc), which probably helped us get a lot of that coverage (although the 148apps review was from me personally sending them a promo and a review request)

thats cool. i'm working on a app that utilizes the "texture / material / construction paper" look as well. but its EXTREMELY unique gameplay. i know we all say that about our games, but thisis REALLY unique, i have yet to see an app like it.. ok its notTHAT unique but it derives from a CERTAIN style (popular one that it).. infact its a mix of two gameplay styles... i'll shut up now :(

Yeah Running Wild has sold less than all my other games and i still think it's the best one we've made....it's true it went high up in the free charts but alas as it stands today it's made just over £100 in total.

It's a lottery alright :) 3 months that bloody game took me :) ahh well onwards and upwards (well that's the plan).

It is certainly getting harder and harder out there...

    Darren.
