Will there be Gamesalad publishing to the Apple Slate?

I was wondering if there will be publishing for the the Apple Slate? I have read rumors that there will be specifications for it like a larger screen size instead of 320x480.

I'd imagine that once it's announced and they actually send out the specs to developers gamesalad will be updated to use it, but until then, it's just rumors. :)

@QS: I think Wii was still better than "Nintendo Revolution." It's definitely become a staple in many a family household, and therefore it bears a more family-friendly name.

That being said, I hope that GS will be quick to implement the tablet resolution. That supposed proximity sensor may be useful to play with...

The New York Times said yesterday that the tablet will run iPhone apps!

I'm sure it'll blow up a 480x320 image to the tablet's native resolution, but it'll look hella blurry, unless it'll run it in movable, resizable windows with multitasking capabilities.

    Wooo, I'm excited!

I would hope after apple discuss the device later today and release the sdk 4.0. That gs will provide us with a release date for a version of gs which will support the iTablet/slate resolution. Hope to god this new device has a faster processor. 3 hours to go.

From what I am hearing, it sounds like some possible iSlate/iTablet type devices were hitting a gaming services company's systems running off-the-shelf App Store apps. So if the data they saw were the new device, it sounds like it may either play the existing apps as is on its touch display or hopefully better scale them (or allow you to scale them) for play. I hope that is the case so you don't have to re-adjust existing apps unless you want to make better use of the display. Even if it didn't scale, the playing of existing apps unscaled would still be a godsend. I can't imagine them not wanting instant compatibility with all the apps in their App Store!?

Even if a couple million slates sell and you currnet app sells around 100 copies a day i would think we would be lucky to see even a couple sales just given how HUGE the iphone and ipod market is.

This is assuming that current apps are backwards compatible.

If developers have to make new Apps for them that a whole diff story.

Could be a short goldmine again haha.... very short but still

I think OS apps would be cool

As for the scaling, I'll bet that there will be flash enabled and possible announced for the iPhone as well. If apps could use vector art, it would change everything.

Ok, it will "pixel double" and display apps full screen.

Curious as to how that will look.

Yep it looks like the iPad will be supported in GameSalad.
  • design219design219 Member Posts: 2,273
will it be possible to make double resolution versions for it?
  • JoshKahaneJoshKahane Member Posts: 470
Thats what I was thinking. I know you can expand the scene size. But the camera is still limited to 480 x 320. Surely we need an iPad mode? :) Which ups that.
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
CodeMonkey...you are saying that it will be supported in a tongue-n-cheek way by way of the iPad supporting unscaled (320x480) and auto double-scaled (640x960) out-of-the-box?

Or will you guys be frantically downloading the announced updated SDK today and start trying to integrate new higher resolution soon? ;-) Get crackin'!!!

I have just heard from a live stream that the price will start from $499 for 16GB. I can really see Apple are trying to get their prices down now (At last)

Omg it also has a slot in keyboard.

Anyone still want to watch it's on http://live.twit.tv/

Now we know the story, 1gzh processor so it means gs will run fast. It's important we now get an update so we can prep our up and coming games for this device.
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
    I guess it's native resolution is: 1024x768 @ 132ppi

The updated 3.2 SDK is available immediately. Get crackin' GS!!
  • JoshKahaneJoshKahane Member Posts: 470
    Yep its the following:

"1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)"

On the Tech Spec page for the iPad.

We need Gamesalad, the tool itself, to run on it :)
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
@fmarkus: That would be awesome. I dreamed of that in the other iPad (iSlate) thread going on at the moment too.

Haha settle down guys, it was just announced today.

That being said, I am really excited about this. And if you aren't, just go watch this video!http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video

This iPad would have been an instant sale for me if GameSalad Creator could run and compile on the iPad. I know that's asking a lot, considering they're totally different architectures (Intel vs. Apple A4 ARM).
  • EastboundEastbound Member, BASIC Posts: 1,074
I'll be happy if Game Salad is just updated to support the iPads resolution.

    what's cookin,

here, here eastbound. ipad resolution goodness for everyone.

    noodles...

    I'm actually a bit disappointed.

It's not a computer. No Illustrator, Photoshop, or other tools of creation. It has a dockable keyboard, but no mouse. I don't think a GameSalad application would be all that useful on this device without the other tools.

Oh, and it's not even a phone.
  • EastboundEastbound Member, BASIC Posts: 1,074
How can you say there won't be any tools of creation? I saw a painting app for the iPad that looked awesome, and I'm sure more apps would come; the platform would be perfect.

Why would you need a mouse?

And of course game salad creations could be useful. Games and random utilities alike.

And there is a model that uses 3G. I wasn't clear if that included phone features or simply internet anywhere. How is it not being a phone a negative anyway? It's way too big to be a phone.
  • butterbeanbutterbean Member Posts: 4,315
Yea I agree, I don't think it would be well marketed as having a phone with the tablet, most people would want to use this product as a niche replacement to their laptop, it's more personal, you can carry it with you, and I think Apple will make tablets a very successful product.

I also think it's a golden opportunity for developers like us to get some interesting games out there! It's like developing for a new device all over again, and opportunity for making more money is there with this device!
