Copyright needed for name?

Would I run into legal issues int the future if I do not copyright or trademark my name (Blazing Applications)? How about app names?

Im sure as long as you could prove your applications and use of the name have been around longer than the person giving you trouble. You would win your court battle and have them pay for your lawyer fees. If the world was logical that is.

Copyrights dont apply to either only trademarks. And its unofficially trademarked to the first person to use it. So no I would waste my time or money unless you have a hit. Then and only then might it be worth the cost in legal and trademark registration fees for me to worry about it. you don't have to register a trademark for it to be yours it only helps protect it.

Yes if you're planning to have a serious company. To avoid troubles in the long run i think its essential.

I don't know how it is outside the Netherlands but here you can either send a letter to the chamber of commerce or IRS with a company name (and logo if necessary) just asking them to archive it. This way it will get a legal date stamp. If anyone claims your name you have legal prove of when you got the name. It is a cost free trick which might work in the US and elsewhere.

Mostly it isn't a problem as long as the other company isn't in your sector (is that English? I mean the same business). My design company is named gForce and there is (or was?) a company named g-force building car parts.
Not related in any kind so if they would sue me they don't have a chance.
