So, the iPad 2 is out today. But I thought it would be fun to wish the ZX81 a happy 30th birthday!

I never had one back in the day (I have three now I think!) but they were quite beautiful if you were a kid growing up in the UK.

Not as great as my beloved Spectrum of course, but it fired people's imaginations back then!

ZX81 - I salute thee!

Cheers,

I used to have one, when I was 8 years old, in 1986. It was my first computer.
My father had bought an IBM PC-XT for him and gave me his ZX81.
In Brazil it was called TK82, with incredible 2 KB RAM! :P
    How I miss that time!

Wow wish I had the opportunity to try that.. my very first computer game was Transformers for the Commodore 64, and very first arcade game was "Time Pilot" and I was forever hooked on games from that point on... :)

Did you know the afore mentioned 'c' word is the biggest selling computer ever? According to wikipedia.

But late to the party with this but I was a bit too young for the zx81, an my parents bought me a cpc464 colour screen instead of a spectrum, which was nice but a bit annoying as my friends had the zx spectrum 48k!

Oh, I have two of them now. But you know, back then, they were the enemy!

A bit like the russians! ;)
