so what size should my graphics be?

I am making an app for the ipods and iphones. I was wondering what size the graphics should be? I want to make it high-res for the retina display, but fit nicely on the older devices.

@idoistuff... it's not that people don't want to help... but it gets very boring and time consuming answering the same question day after day... (and sometimes many times during a day)... so search first in Forum and Wiki and the youTube videos... and if it is still not clear ... post the problem you are having.
