Guideline Question - Realistic Violence?

I noticed in the Apple Guidelines it says:

"Apps portraying realistic images of people or animals being killed or maimed, shot, stabbed, tortured or injured will be rejected"

Does that mean we need to avoid shooting of any kind unless it is in real cartoon format. Lets say I was making a point and click game, and it showed a 3D rendered cut scene of someone being shot. Would this stop my game being published.

Depends how tastefully it was done, if you saw in great detail, his spline being shot across the room and his intestines rupturing you may be in for some trouble, if it was done with tact, you should be fine.

That doesn't stop the app store from being loaded with violent games anyway? It's just a microcosm of the console and PC game world

Yeah I noticed that, was just slightly worried because of the game I am working on. If you look at some of the games on the app store under ratings. Some say "Realistic violence"

I think that real means real.... actual photos ... not graphic drawings...

and even then I think that the intent/purpose of including the violence would influence Apple's decision...
