Difference between 3G and 3GS?

Just wondering what different frame rates you normally get when running your games in GS viewer on a 3G iphone/2nd gen ipod compared to a 3GS iphone/3rd gen ipod. Do they play that much smoother?

Cheers

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone#Models

    Key points of difference:

CPU is faster on the 3GS
GPU is faster on the 3GS
Ram is 256MB on the 3GS (128MB on the 3G)

Everything is even faster on the iPhone4

iPad is somewhere in the middle between the 3GS and the iPhone4. It has the same memory as the 3GS but it has the same CPU and GPU as the iPhone4, but it also has more pixels to push (more pixels takes [slightly] more cpu power)

Hi TSB, do you remember any typical differences off hand? An extra 10 or 15fps for your average game maybe?

My test device is a 2nd gen ipod. I keep adding stuff to my game and then fiddling around to bring the frame rate back up. But I may have to concede that 'as long as it doesn't crash' is good enough for 2nd gen (which will probably no longer be supported by apple once the 5th gen come out this summer?)

I was hoping someone would say - 'hey i usually get an extra 15-20fps on my 3gs compared to my 3g'.... :o)

i have a 3G and an iPad and an iPhone4

After a year of fighting to get GS to run smooth on arm6 chips (the 3G) i gave up. The game runs at 20fps on the 3G it runs at 60fps on the iPhone4 and 50fps on the iPad.

GS just isn't fast on older devices.

Great, thanks for those figures Orbz and TSB. That's exactly what I was hoping to hear!

I'm getting 20-25fps (at the moment - i can't stop adding stuff!) on my 2nd gen ipod and my mates 3g. So it should play smooth enough on 3gs. Of course I'll test it before releasing.

    Cheers!
