Good place to start for art?

So I'm not an artist. Don't claim to be one. So when designing my games I was very simple game objects to use. My question for you all, is what should I be using to create simple objects (preferably free!).

I downloaded blender (haven't even opened the program yet) and figured I'd mess around with that for a bit. I understand that it does 3d models and GS is a 2d game device. So can I create 3d models in blender to use in my GS games?

Or is there a better program to use for 2d graphics?

Thanks!

    Sumopaint.con

It's free to use, and is very similar to Photoshop. Give it a try.

    Hey Doc,
any image you create with blender can be used as a background or smaller actor in your scenes.
When you render in blender (hit the F12 button on your keyboard) you just save that as a png and you are good to go.

Becoming proficient with any 3D app is like studying medicine ... it takes years.
An easy program to master is Cheetah3D which costs about 150 Dollars in the Apple App Store but modeling is faster with blender.
Animation for $10 can be had by visiting here: http://projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html

There are some good books or Lynda video training that will speed up the learning curve a bit.

I am amazed that you have time to do gs but learning 3D and becoming good at it takes a life time :)

I don't. LOL. But when I get free time I have to be doing something (I can't sit around and do nothing). So I picked this up and really find myself enjoying it!
