Hello all

My game Rainbow bomb was released on the 25th January, since then ive only had 27 downloads.

I think the game is good and others who have played give me good feedback but the lack of sales seem to suggest otherwise.

What I would like to know from the gamesalad community is honestly what you think.

Cheers

I looked at it on my mac for about 5 seconds to simulate what the average customer would do. What jumps out at me is that your screenshots look distorted which screams amateur. I would polish up the screenshots. You can get pro iphone images for free through the apple developers portal that look way better than the ones you've used. I would also consider using an iphone4 or 4th gen ipod to take a hi res screenshot to put in the iphone frame. Or use photoshop to make a simulated screenshot.

    good luck!

    The icon is very good.

Your description says hi-res graphics, your screenshots do not!

    QS :D

yea, fix you're screenshots, get rid of the fake iphone border, people don't really care to see that in the store, tha'ts good for your website. it looks like you took the screenshot image and just pushed the sides in to make it fit, like scitunes said, it LOOKS like you don't care about it enough to make it look good, which doesn't seem like it's the case.

for the icon, you have a blue square with a rounded brown border, so the blue square has portions cut off, I'd drop the brown border so it's really rounded, OR get a proper border like scitunes' profile picture.

Hi, are these new screenshots actually screenshots? They look like they were made in an image editor as the in game characters are not that size. Screenshots should be just that, hold down home and power to grab a shot from the device (hi res on an iphone 4 or iPod touch 4G).

Ok, I bought your game. I'll give you my honest opinions. You said you didn't mind people being harsh, so here we go :-)

First problem is with the graphics. This currently is one of your barriers to sales. The screenshots as mentioned look terrible and blurry, they are in the wrong direction on itunes as well. This orientation issue continues to the game, you have the splashscreen in portrait and the game in landscape. When into the game the first thing is the main title page, the character is not round as he should be, it has some sort of sticking out bit on the side and looks a bit lazy. I can see that it wasn't originally red as well and has been coloured with a fill tool after the stroke was applied, so you can see a little white between the black border and the main body. Within the game itself the text is a mish mash of GS text and graphic text. The graphic text is mismatching sizes and some of it looks stretched, on the 'game end' screen it is not even on a transparent background. The in game graphics are extremely low quality, some blurry some stretched or pixelated. The replay and exit buttons are not even cut out and have a grey border around them. The explosion graphic looks pasted on and lacks proper transparency or animation. The colour choices all clash and seem to lack any thought, all the primary colours on a page with some brown and black thrown in as well. The icon is a flat square pasted on top of a rounded border, it doesn't look right.

Away from the graphics the sound is bad, it has no music and just the first sound effects you could find attached to some buttons (but some are silent). I think the whole game only has 2 sound effects in it. Gameplay is not very exciting or addictive and after working out what to do I really didn't want to play again afterwards. There is a bug when you finish a game in that it is sometimes bringing me back to the game over screen when i try to start a new game.

I think all in all it kinda looks bad, plays bad and sounds bad. I think if this is your first game then it's not a bad start. But maybe it didn't need to be released on the appstore, it could have made a good learning experience (27 sales sounds quite good really considering). My advice is to either get an artist or spend a couple of months really learning how to use a graphics package to create good quality art (there are thousands of tutorials out there). If you want sales it has to look like a professional game as there are plenty out there you are competing against. Then really find what people are buying, is this sort of game generally popular? The problem is with gamesalad being so easy to get a game out that often production values are kinda low.

I hope you are not too offended but I think honest opinions from people who have played it are useful.

If I can't figure out how to play by looking at the screenshots, I'm not buying it. Just FYI. Even if you have to put a simple screen overlay of instructions in there, let people see a picture & at least get an idea of what the gameplay is like.
