Is it necessary to have snow leopard for gs to work?

Is it neccesary to have snow leopard for gs to work? Cause in the system requirements it says 10.6...And when i try to open the .9 gs on my comp it says..."the application gs quit unexpectidley and when i try to hit the relaunch button the same window pop up over and over again!

Yes, 10.6 Snow Leopard is required for GS to run.
